1. Kiran Bedi appointed Puducherry Lt Governor

BJP leader and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, a Rashtrapati Bhawan communque said.

2. India and Oman sign four key defence agreements

India and Oman vowed to deepen bilateral defence ties as the two countries signed four key agreements in the critical sector with focus on enhancing military cooperation. 

The agreements on defence cooperation, marine crime prevention, maritime issues and flight safety information exchange was signed following the maiden visit of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to Oman, considered one of the closest country in the middle east. 

3. Sikkim CM Chamling conferred with Nepal's literary award

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was conferred the 'Yug Kavi Siddhicharan Award' by Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli for his commendable contributions in promoting Nepali literature in India. 

The award was presented to Chamling at a ceremony organised here. 

Siddhicharan Shrestha Academy organised the event on the occasion of 105th birth anniversary of the late poet Shrestha. 

The award carries a certificate of appreciation and a sum of NRs 100,000. 

Chamling, 65, was not present to receive the award. 

He has been awarded twice by the Sikkim Sahitya Parishad - Chintan Puraskar in 1987 for the best poem and Bhanu Puraskar in 2010. 

Chamling's other works in Nepali include Prarambhik Kavita (poems, 1978), Antyaheen Sapana: Mero Bipana (poems, 1985), Ma Ko Hoon! (poems, 1992), and Sikkim ra Nariko Maryada. 

An author of many books in Nepali, English and Hindi, he is also a publisher.

4. Anurag Thakur elected new BCCI president, Ajay Shirke as secretary 

Anurag Thakur was on Sunday unanimously elected as the second youngest BCCI President, while Ajay Shirke was chosen as Secretary .

The 41-year-old Thakur replaced Shashank Manohar who quit the position to take up the ICC chairman’s job. 

The Maharashtra Cricket Association chief and business magnate Shirke expectedly filled in the Secretary’s post which was left vacant by Thakur’s resignation 

Thakur is also the third person backed by East Zone to be elected to the top post during the 2014-2017 period.
