Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, who is currently heading the Western Command, will be the the next Navy Chief Chief.
Vice Adm Lanba will take over the reins of the Navy on May 31, following the retirement of Admiral RK Dhowan .
A specialist in Navigation and Direction and an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, Vice Admiral Lanba has vast operational and staff experience over a career spanning more than three decades.
2. Noted scholar Asloob Ahmad Ansari died
Sahitya Academy Award winner and noted scholar Asloob Ahmad Ansari died here after brief illness.
Ansari, a former head of the Department of English at Aligarh Muslim University, died following brief illness.
He was conferred the Sahitya Academy Award in 1980 for his work in Urdu, 'Iqbal Ki Terah Nazmen'.
Ansari was also a recipient of UP Urdu Academy Award, Ghalib Award and Bahadur Shah Zafar Award for his textual criticism of the works of Urdu poet Mohammad Iqbal.
3. India to clock GDP growth of 7.4% in FY17: HSBC
According to the global financial services company HSBC, India's GDP growth in the current fiscal 2016-17 will be 7.4 per cent.
According to the global financial services major, India's new GDP series seem to exaggerate the economy's true growth rate and this overestimation is likely to narrow over the next few quarters.
The Reserve Bank of India in April had said that the economy is likely to grow by 7.6 per cent in the current fiscal on the back of favourable monsoon.
The Finance Ministry has projected Indian economy to grow 7-7.75 per cent in the current fiscal.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) too had projected Indian's economic growth for current fiscal at 7.4 per cent.
4. Pranav Pandya nominated to Rajya Sabha
Pranav Pandya, head of the All World Gayatri Pariwar and editor of Akhand Jyoti magazine has been nominated to the rajya sabha by President Pranab Mukherjee.
A medical practitioner with MBBS and MD qualifications, Pandya is known as an advocate of 'scientific spirituality'.
5. Future Retail names Kishore Biyani as vice-chairman
Future Retail appointed independent director V K Chopra as the chairman and non-executive director Kishore Biyani as the vice-chairman of the company.
Besides, Vijay Biyani has been redesignated as the Managing Director of the company, Future Retail informed BSE.

7. Mathew Fleming to become next MCC President
Former England all-rounder Matthew Fleming is all set to become the next President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
The 51-year-old will take up the post on October 1 this year.
He was nominated by the current President Roger Knight at MCC’s Annual General Meeting, which took place at Lord’s in London.
Currently the Chairman of Cricket, having been elected in October 2013, Fleming will be the youngest MCC president in 36 years, since Peter May served in 1980
8. NASSCOM, Facebook ink MoU to engage with India's entrepreneurs
The trade body of Indian IT firms NASSCOM has signed a MoU with Facebook to build a product design initiative to engage the country's young entrepreneurs into becoming problem solvers and solution builders.
Signed in Silicon Valley this week, the NASSCOM-Facebook initiative is likely to propel innovative thinking and approaches to build solutions in key sectors where technology can play a transformational role, NASSCOM President R Chandrashekhar said.
The Product Council has been running design workshops and an annual design summit to create awareness on product design and its imperatives said Ravi Gururaj, Chairman, NASSCOM Product Council.
