1. Shri Piyush Goyal Launches Portal for Contract Labour Payment Management System


Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy launched ‘Contract Labour Payment Management System’- a portal of Coal India Limited (CIL). 

2. Dr. Radha Binod Barman, an Eminent Statistician Nominated as Chairperson of the National Statistical Commission

Dr. Radha Binod Barman, an eminent statistician, has taken over as the part-time Chairperson in the National Statistical Commission.

The Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog is the ex-officio Member in the Commission. The Commission is an advisory body on all statistical matters, set up to enhance public trust in official statistics.

3. Minister of State (I/C) for Commerce and Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman launches EXIM Analytics Dashboard

As part of the initiative of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to provide easy access to the public on export and import trends of India the Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman launched a dashboard on EXIM Analytics. This is a portal developed by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, at the instance of the Ministry.

EXIM Analytics represents data graphically exposing patterns, trends and correlations that might go undetected in text-based data. The dashboard gives a graphical collection of exports and imports from India.

Air Marshal PP Khandekar assumed the responsibilities of Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance at Air HQ, New Delhi. 

6. C Raja Mohan named inaugural Marshall Bouton Asia Fellow

C Raja Mohan, a foreign policy strategist, has been named as the inaugural Marshall Bouton Asia Fellow of the prestigious Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

The Chicago-based Council established this fellowship in recognition of Marshall M Bouton, who was president of the Council from 2001 to 2013.

Mohan will deliver the Council's first Marshall M Bouton Lecture: "American Retrenchment: Implications for India and Asia."

7. Former Maharashtra cricketer Sunil Gudge passes away

Maharashtra leg-spinner Sunil Gudge passed away.

Born in Pune on December 31, 1959, the leg-spinner and handy lower order batsman played 55 first class matches during his decade-and-a-half career.

8. Exim Bank extends its second largest credit of $1-bn to Mongolia

The Exim Bank has extended a line of credit (LoC) worth USD 1 billion to Mongolia for developing its railways and related infrastructure.

This is the second largest Exim Bank credit line to any country, the Bank said in a statement.

9. Mike Powell named Event Ambassador for World 10K

Olympian and World champion Long Jumper Mike Powell was named as the 'International Event Ambassador' for the 9th edition of the TCS World 10K Run to be held on May 15, announced organisers Procam International.

A total of 23,748 participants will take centerstage along with World half-marathon champion, Peres Jepchirchir, Gladys Chesir, the fastest women in 10K, clocking 30:41 at the Berlin 10K.

World 10K defending champion MosinetGeremew and former World Record holder in the marathon, Patrick Makau will be other participants.

10. Manoj Kumar receives Dada Sahab Phalke Award

Veteran film actor and director Manoj Kumar was conferred with the 47th Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 63rd National Films Awards.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is conferred by the government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh and a shawl.

11. Bangladesh govt approves Reliance Power's gas power plant

The Government of Bangladesh granted in-principle approval for the first phase of Reliance Power's gas based power project of 750 MW in Meghnaghat (Narayanganj district), around 40 km South-East of Dhaka. This is the largest foreign direct investment in Bangladesh with a potential investment of over $1.3 billion.
