1. Virat Kohli becomes first player to score 4000 IPL runs 

India's star batsman and Royal Challenger Banglore Captain Viart Kohli became the first batsman to score 4000 runs in Indian Premier League. He achieved this record in the match against Kings XI Punjab. 


2. Justice(Retd) Mihir Kr Jha and K C Saha take oath as Lokayukta 



Justice (Retd) Mihir Kumar Jha and former bureaucrat Kirti Chandra Saha took oath as members of the three-member Bihar Lokayukta. 

3. US Senate confirms nomination of Indian-American for major post in OPIC



The US Senate has confirmed the nomination of an Indian-American Deven Parekh by President Barack Obama to the board of directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. 

Nominated by the US President Barack Obama in August 2014, Parekh is currently a managing director at Insight Venture Partners, a position he has held since 2001. 

Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is the US government's development finance institution. It mobilises private capital to help solve critical development challenges and, in doing so, advances US foreign policy. 

4. Indian women's 4x100m relay team breaks 18-year-old national record 



The Indian 4x100m women's relay team broke the 18-year-old national record to finish in 4th position at the IAAF World Challenge. 

The 4x100m women relay team comprising Dutee Chand ,Srabani Nanda , HM Jyoti and Merlin Joseph clocked 44.03s to finish the race, breaking the 18-year-old record of 44.43s created by the quartet of SaraswatiDey, Rachita Mistry, EB Shyla and PT Usha on July 22, 1998 in Fukuoka, Japan. 

5. Himachal to get India's first solar wind power plant


State-run Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board Ltd (HPEBL) and Solar Energy Corp of India (SECI) signed a pact to set up India's first solar wind hybrid power plant in the hill state. 

The agreement was signed by Managing Directors P.C. Negi of HPEBL and Ashwani Kumar of SECI in the presence of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here. 


Under the agreement, joint venture Himachal Pradesh Solar Power Corp Ltd has been set up to commission a pilot solar wind hybrid power project of 2.5 MW at Rangrik in Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti district. 

It will be commissioned by October 2017, a government statement said. On completion, it would benefit 12,000 habitants of Rangrik, Kaza, Tabo, Losar and Pin valley. 

6. Apple Opens Development Office in Hyderabad 


Apple Inc. announced the opening of a new office in Hyderabad that will focus on development of Maps for Apple products, including iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. This investment will accelerate Maps development and create up to 4,000 jobs. 

7. RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani conferred prestigious Othmer Gold Medal 



Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd, has been awarded the prestigious Othmer Gold Medal for his entrepreneurial leadership. 

Specifically, the award has been given to Mr Ambani in recognition of his leadership role in the expansion of India’s petroleum refining industry, creation of the Jamnagar Refinery in Gujarat – the largest grassroots petroleum refinery in the world --, and path-breaking initiatives in oil and gas exploration. 

8. Indian-American Rupa Iyer awarded highest teaching award in US 


An Indian-American biotechnologist has received University of Houston's highest teaching award for her sustained and significant contributions to education. 

Rupa Iyer, an Indian-American Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Houston's College of Technology, has been presented the "Distinguished Leadership in Teaching Excellence Award ". 

It is the highest award given in teaching and the only one given in this category by the varsity. 

9. India to grow at 7.5% in 2016, 2017: Moody's 



Forecasting Indian economy to grow 7.5 per cent in the current and next year, Moody's Investors Service today said the expansion is primarily driven by rising consumption and sustained improvement in private investment was needed to maintain the momentum. 

10. Taj Mahal in top 5 tourist attractions globally: Survey 

Considered one of the most iconic wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal has been voted among the top five tourist attractions in the world, second in Asia and led the popularity list in India, according to a leading travel planning and booking site Trip Advisor. 

The iconic ‘monument of love’ is ranked number 5 in the global list of the recently released TripAdvisor’sTravellers’ Choice Landmarks Awards, which put Machu Picchu in Peru and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center in Abu Dhabi as the top two destinations for travellers. 

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for landmarks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period. The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.” 

The Amber Fort in Jaipur also figures on the 8th list of in the Travellers’ Choice Landmarks in Asia. Known for its combination of Mughal and Rajput architecture, Amber fort is one of the major tourist attractions in Jaipur. The most fascinating state room inside the fort is the Sheesh Mahal, also known as the mirror palace, adorned with thousands of mirror tiles which supposedly can be fully lit just by a single candle. 

This fort along with Jaigarh Fort, is located immediately above on the CheelkaTeela (Hill of Eagles) and connected by a subterranean passage. This passage was meant as an escape route in times of war to enable the royal family members to shift to Jaigarh Fort. The Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, Punjab is ranked number 3 on the Travellers’ Choice Landmarks -India list. 


11.Nepal SBI Bank launches payment gateway 



Nepal SBI Bank , one of the largest overseas subsidiaries of SBI, has launched payment gateway to facilitate online trade and non-trade transactions between the Himalayan nation and India.

With the launch of above services, the customer of Nepal SBI Bank can utilise various features of mobile banking and other value added services along with the platform of the payment gateway, the bank said in a statement. 

The Payment Gateway was inaugurated by SBI Managing Director B Sriram, and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae .
