Rio Olympics : Know Your olympics contingents (Archery)

Hello Readers,
Archery of India came into existence in 1973, with the primary objective to organize, encourage, and promote the game of Archery in the country by providing proper training facilities to Indian Archers.




The Indian archery team reached Brazil early to get used to the conditions, boosting their medal hopes at the Rio Games.India's medal hopes are strong beacuse of the women's team and also there's a lot of expectation from former World number one Deepika at Rio.

DEEPIKA KUMARI (21)
Competition : Team recurve And Individual



Kumari qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she competed in the Women’s Individual and Women’s team events, finishing in eighth place in the latter.Her performance is improving day by day which have increased the expectation of a medal from this 21 yr old.

She was conferred with Arjuna Award, India’s second highest sporting award in the year 2012 by President of India Pranab Mukherjee.



Bombayla Devi Laishram (33)
Competition : Team recurve And Individual



Bombayla Devi started archery in 1997 and made her international debut in 2007.Her current world ranking is 70.She received wide recognition after she won gold at the recurve team event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.This is the third time she will be representing India at the Olympics, the first being in Beijing, the second in London and now at the Rio Olympics 2016.






Laxmirani Majhi (27)
Competition : Team recurve And Individual


Laxmi Rani Majhi will compete in archery at Rio 2016 Olympics.Laxmi Rani Majhi, 27, qualified by making it to the quarters of the World Championship in Copenhagen in May.Majhi is the least experienced among the three women archers representing India in Rio. Her teammates — Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi – were at the London Olympics, where they both suffered a shocking knockout.




Atanu Das (24)
Competition : Recurve Individual


Atanu started archery in 2006 and made his international debut in 2008.Current world ranking of das is 22.Atanu Das replaced Mangal Singh Champia in archery for Rio 2016 Olympics.
Das had won a silver with Deepika Kumari in the mixed category at the Archery World Cup in Antalya.Das had earlier bagged two team silver medals (Wroclaw and Medellin, 2014) and two mixed pair bronze medals (Medellin 2013 and 2014) in the World Cups.
