1. Federal Bank ties up with Reliance Jio Money 

 
Federal Bank signed an agreement with Reliance Jio Money for one-click payment service. Reliance Jio money is a wallet application that will be launched soon for mobile devices where Federal bank will enable a direct payment option for its customers.

Through this service the bank's customers can complete a transaction without funding the wallet. Bank's customers will get a facility to directly pay from their account for the services offered through the wallet (without pre-loading their wallet). This arrangement will help customers retain cash in their account and use it only when a transaction is made unlike other instances where a wallet will require the user to maintain balance exclusively in the wallet. Once launched the bank's customers will be able to perform a variety of transactions across numerous merchants in just a click.

2. Gurgaon gets its first water ATM 


 
In a bid to supply filtered drinking water to residents, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) today launched a community safe drinking water project as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative and inaugurated Gurgaon’s first water ATM in Kasan village, along with Pataudi MLA Bimla Chaudhary at Manesar.

3. India ranks 110th on Sustainable Development index 


 
India has ranked a low 110 out of 149 nations assessed on where they stand with regard to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, according to a new index which is topped by Sweden and shows all countries face major challenges in achieving these ambitious goals.

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Bertelsmann Stiftung launched a new Sustainable Development Goal Index and Dashboard to provide a report card for tracking Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) progress and ensuring accountability.

The index collected available data for 149 countries to assess where each country stands in 2016 with regard to achieving the SDGs.

It ranks countries based on their performance across the 17 global goals, a set of ambitious objectives across the three dimensions of sustainable development, economic development, social inclusion and environmental sustainability, underpinned by good governance.

The index helps countries identify priorities for early actions and shows that every country faces major challenges in achieving the SDGs.

4. PM Modi & B'desh PM Hasina jointly dedicates 'India-Bangladesh Integrated Check Post' 



Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly dedicated the Petrapole Integrated Check Post through video-conferencing.

Prime Minister Modi said that the check post would not only boost bilateral trade, but also enhance connectivity, people to people ties and become a gateway of economic progress for both the countries.

He also announced plans to set up 8 new Integrated Check Posts on India-Bangladesh border. Bangladesh Prime Minister too pointed out that the check post would boost regional connectivity and economic growth. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who joined the video-conference from Kolkata, promised all help to develop the check post.

Petrapole-Benapole is an important land border crossing for India-Bangladesh trade. More than 50% of the India-Bangladesh trade passes through Petrapole.

Trade worth more than Rs. 15000 Crore takes place through the Petrapole ICP, which is more than all the other Indian Land Ports and Land Customs Stations put together.

Approximately 15 lakh people and 150,000 trucks cross Petrapole-Benapole every year.

The Petrapole ICP will provide better facilities for effective and efficient discharge of functions such as security, immigration, customs, quarantine, etc. while also providing support facilities for smooth cross-border movement of persons, goods and transport.

Petrapole ICP is be the second ICP on the India-Bangladesh border after the Agartala ICP at the Agartala (India)-Akhaura (Bangladesh) land border. It will also be the biggest land port in South Asia.

The commissioning of the Petrapole ICP will serve to foster greater economic integration and connectivity between India and Bangladesh.

5. Mahendra Singh Dhoni named brand ambassador of Australian cricket academy 



India's ODI and T20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the face and brand ambassador of the Craig McDermott International Cricket Academy (CMICA), a leading state of the art private cricket and educational sports academy in Australia.

It proposes to offer a four-year bachelor's degree in sports science and management with special emphasis on cricket.

6. PM Modi lays foundation stone for fertiliser plant in Gorakhpur 


 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the revival of a sick fertiliser plant in Gorakhpur, a move which will create up to 4,000 jobs and ensure adequate supply of nutrients to farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for setting up of an All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at an estimated cost of Rs 1,011 crore to provide super-specialty healthcare to people of the state and create a large pool of doctors.

The plant belonging to the Fertiliser Corporation India Ltd (FCIL) has been lying idle since 1990s. It would be revived through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of public sector units (PSUs) at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore.

NTPC, Coal India and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) have formed a joint venture in this regard and a tender will soon be floated to finalise the contractor.

7. Ajay Bhushan Pandey appointed as CEO of UIDAI 


 
The Union Government appointed Ajay Bhushan Pandey as the Chief Executive Officer of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the promotion of Pandey with effect from 12 July 2016.

Under Pandey’s tenure, UIDAI will have to deal with the legal cases involving privacy and parliamentary issues that Aadhaar has been embroiled in.

Who is Ajay Bhushan Pandey?

• Pandey is a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Maharashtra cadre.

• He has been serving as Director General of the UIDAI since August 2015.

• He holds a doctorate in Computer Science from University of Minnesota Minneapolis of US.

• UIDAI was founded in 2009 under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime with former Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani as its chairman. Nilekani resigned in 2014.

• It is the organisation behind the Aadhaar, which is a 12 digit unique number, linked with an individual’s demographic and biometric information.

• As of 15 July 2016, about 102 crore Aadhaar IDs have been generated.
