1. Exim extends $200 mn credit to Senegal
Export-Import Bank of India (Exim) extended USD 200 million (around Rs 1,350 crore) worth buyers credit (BC) to Senegal for construction of a 225 kV power transmission line.
The government-run principal financial institution extended the credit under National Export Insurance Account (NEIA).
The funds will be used to construct a transmission line for Tambacounda-Kolda-Ziguinchor link and extensions and rehabilitation of networks in the region in the African country, the bank said.
The agreement was signed by Exim Bank CMD Yaduvendra Mathur and Ambassador of Senegal in India Elhadj Ibou Boye.
2. 231 Namami Gange projects of Rs 1500 Cr launched
In its bid to fast-track execution of the ambitious Namami Gange programme, the NDA government launched 231 projects, including installation of sewage treatment plants and ghat constructions, at over 100 locations in seven states with an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore.
The projects, aimed at cleaning the holy river and ensuring its unfettered flow, were launched simultaneously at 103 locations in five basin states of the river - Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, besides Delhi and Haryana through which Ganga's tributary Yamuna passes.
Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Uma Bharati and Mahesh Sharma and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat launched 43 such projects in Haridwar.
3. Dipa Karmakar named World Class Gymnast by International Gymnastics Federation
Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar was named a ‘Gymnaste de Classe Mondaile’ (World class gymnast) by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
In this regard, she received the official letter confirming the distinction from the federation.
With this, she also became the first-ever Indian gymnast to receive the honour.
Who is Dipa Karmakar?
• She is an Indian artistic gymnast from Agartala, Tripura.
• She rose to recognition when she won a bronze medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games becoming the first Indian female gymnast to do so in the history of the games.
• She won a bronze at the Asian Gymnastics Championships and finished 5th at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
• With this, she became the first Indian finalist at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
• In April 2016, Karmakar became the first female Indian gymnast ever to secure an Olympic berth by garnering a total score of 52.698 points.
• She is the first woman in the gymnast history to land the Produnova, one of the most dangerous vaults.
• She won 10 gold medals at two national games. She received the Arjuna Award in August 2015.
4. Noted music director Omi passes away
Noted music director Om Prakash Sonik, also known as Omi, part of the Sonik-Omi duo, died. He was 77.
Sonik–Omi was an Indian composer working in duo consisting of Master Sonik (a blind music director) and his nephew Omi.
The duo was known for their work on Hindi film soundtracks. Some of their best-known works are Bhakti Mein Shakti, Dharma, Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya, Sawan Bhadon, Aabroo, and Raftaar.
Born in Sialkot (now in Pakistan), he along with his family had moved to India after Partition in 1947. The Sonik-Omi team gave music to over 100 Hindi films in the 1950-1980s period.
The duo were known for their work on Hindi film soundtracks. Some of their best-known works are Bhakti Mein Shakti, Dharma, Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya, Sawan Bhadon, Aabroo, and Raftaar.
Some films where the duo acted as a composer includes

• Truck Driver
• Mehfil, Beti
• Dharti Ki God Mein
• Dharma
• Chowki No. 11
Omi continued composing after death of uncle Master Sonik in 1993. Omi’s last musical track was for film Biwi No.2 in 2000.
5. India sets up apparel training centre in Nigeria
India has set up an apparel training centre in Nigeria to support textiles industry of the west African country.
This is a first of its kind centre in Nigeria set up in partnership with their government, the Commerce and Industry Ministry said in a statement.
The centre has been established in Kaduna, Nigeria under the Cotton Technical Assistance Programme for Africa which is being implemented by the Indian Department of Commerce. It was inaugurated on June 22.
"The center is aimed to support and catalyze the initiative of Nigeria in realising the objectives to rebuild the cotton and textile value chain and address the need for skilled workforce for domestic as well export-oriented apparel industry in the west African region," the statement said.
Nigeria is an important trading partner of India. The bilateral trade between the two countries stood at USD 12.17 billion in 2015-16 as against USD 16.36 billion in the previous fiscal.
