1. GSMA unveils solution for online authentication via mobile nos
Global telecom industry body GSMA announced the launch of 'Mobile Connect', a mobile-based authentication solution that allows users to create and manage their digital identity across apps and services, using their mobile numbers.
The Mobile Connect services will be offered by six telecom operators - Bharti Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Aircel, Tata Teleservices and Telenor - to over 80 crore subscribers across India.
2. Niti Aayog partners Intel to set up Atal Tinkering Labs
Niti Aayog tied up with Intel India to set up 10 laboratories under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) to cultivate adaptive learning and innovation skills among young minds.
The government think tank, which as a part of AIM has introduced the Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) initiative in the country, today signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with Intel India.
The SoI includes creation of 10 laboratories, aimed at fostering curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds; teaching skills such as computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing; and developing a design mindset among students.
The SoI was signed here in the presence of Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, Vice president - Corporate Affairs at Intel Corporation Rosalind Hudnell, and president of the Intel Foundation, as well as Kishore Balaji, Director of Corporate Affairs Group, Intel South Asia.
The key objective of setting-up these ATLs is to build relevant skill set among youngsters and provide access to technology to help create solutions for social impact.
These 10 ATLs will act as exemples for the remaining 490. During this time, these laboratories intend to impact 2, 50,000 youth with innovation skills and skills for the future, across 500 communities and schools.
3. India and WHO tie up for promotion of Yoga, Ayurveda
The Ministry of AYUSH has signed an agreement with World Health Organisation for promotion of traditional Indian systems of medicine, including Yoga and Ayurveda, globally.
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik said as per the agreement, India has assigned activities to WHO for developing technical documents under four categories.
The four categories include benchmarks for training in Yoga, Ayurveda, Unani medicine and Panchkarma.
Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Ajit M Sharan and Assistant Director General, Health Systems and Innovations, WHO, Marie Kieny, had signed the Project Collaboration Agreement in Geneva on May 13, 2016.
4. IMF trims India’s GDP to 7.4 per cent for 2016-17
International Monetary Fund (IMF) has trimmed India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projections to 7.4 per cent for 2016-17. Before this IMF projected the India's growth to be 7.5 per cent for the current fiscal year.
5. Mohapatra takes charge as AAI chairman
Guruprasad Mohapatra assumed office as the chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI). Prior to this appointment, he was joint secretary in the Commerce Ministry.
6. Director Garry Marshall dies at 81
Veteran filmmaker and TV personality Garry Marshall died. He was 81.
7. Indian teenager bags Google Community Impact Award for Asia
Advay Ramesh, a 14-year-old student from Chennai, has won the prestigious Google Community Impact Award from Asia for creating a device that enhances fishermen's safety and productivity.
Ramesh, a Class 10 student from Chennai's National Public School, is also among 20 finalists shortlisted to compete for a $50,000 scholarship from Google.
Ramesh's "Fishermen Lifeline Terminal (FELT)" hand-held terminal uses the Standard Position Services (SPS), an open service without encryption provided by the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System to enhance fishermen's safety and productivity at the sea.
The Google Community Impact Award honours a project that makes a practical difference in the innovator's community by addressing an environmental, health or resources challenge.
8. Indian hockey wizard Mohammed Shahid dies aged 56
Former Indian hockey Captain Mohammed Shahid died. He was 56.
9. Rohit Khandelwal becomes first Indian to win Mister World title
India's contestant Rohit Khandelwal won the coveted Mister World 2016 title. With this, Khandelwal has become the first Indian and Asian to win the Mr World title at the competition.
The grand finale of Mr World 2016 was held at the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre in Southport, U.K.
Mr World 2014 Nicklas Pedersen passed on the title to Khandelwal. He also won a cash prize of 50000 US dollar.
Puerto Rico’s Fernando Alberto Alvarez Soto was named the first runner-up and Aldo Esparza Ramirez of Mexico was named the second runner-up.
Who is Rohit Khandelwal?
• Rohit Khandelwal was born on 19 August 1989 in Hyderabad.
• He graduated from Aurora Degree College.
• He served as ground staff for SpiceJet and technical support assistant at the Dell Computers prior to entering the modelling industry.

10. US-India join hands in exploring petroleum and energy sector
The United States and India have agreed to take several key steps in petroleum and energy sector, aimed towards achieving the ambitious goal of energy independence.
The key prospects include development of petroleum storage, which is considered crucial for national security and strategic needs, increase technical co-operation in new technologies in development of bio fuel (2nd generation ethanol and bio-diesel) and assessment and reassessment of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reserves in India, both onshore and offshore.
