1. India's first green rail corridor launched in Tamil Nadu 

 
The nation's first Green Rail Corridor, a 114-km long Rameswaram-Manamadurai stretch in Tamil Nadu which ensures zero toilet discharge on rail tracks, was inaugurated by Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu.

Trains in the section have been equipped with bio-toilets ensuring zero discharge of human waste on the rail tracks.

Inaugurating the corridor through video-conferencing from here, Prabhu said his ministry was committed to converting all toilets in railways to bio-toilets.

He said till March 2016, a total of 35,104 bio-toilets had been provided and since then till last week 7,000 more new bio -toilets have been made operational.

2. China rolls out massive amphibious aircraft 


 
China rolled out the world's largest amphibious aircraft AG600 to fight forest fires and perform marine rescue missions.

The AG600 rolled off a production line in the southern city of Zhuhai, in what aviation observers see as a milestone for China.

The aircraft has a maximum take-off weight of 53.5 tonnes, a maximum flight range of 4,500 km, and it can collect 12 tonnes of water in 20 seconds, according to state aircraft maker the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

The AG600 is by far the world’s largest amphibian aircraft, about the size of a Boeing 737, AVIC deputy general manager Geng Ruguang said.

An amphibious aircraft can take off and land on both land and water.

3. CAB honours Bose with Lifetime Achievement award 


 
Former Bengal captain Gopal Bose was felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement award by the Cricket Association of Bengal.

CAB president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly handed a blazer, a citation and a cheque of Rs two lakh to Bose who was legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s opening partner in the early 1970s.

4. Lewis Hamilton wins 2016 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 


 
The Mercedes driver led from lights to flag to finish ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg while Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo scored the final podium spot.

Hamilton’s win gives him a six point buffer over Rosberg going into next week’s German Grand Prix, after a mid-race scare where he lost pace to his teammate was overcome.

Hamilton passed Rosberg off the line, while Ricciardo made a bold move to jump from third to second place in the opening turns.

5. Kanyakumari — first woman violinist to get Sangita Kalanidhi award 


 
A. Kanyakumari, an outstanding and versatile violinist, will get the Sangita Kalanidhi award of the Music Academy this year.

Ms. Kanyakumari was the first woman violinist to get the award in the history of the Music Academy and she will preside over the 90th annual conference of the Academy to be held between December 15, 2016 and January 1, 2017. The award will be conferred on her at the Sadas on January 1, 2017.

6. Feliciano Lopez wins 2016 Swiss Open Gstaad 


 
Feliciano Lopez of Spain defeated Robin Haase of the Netherlands to win the 2016 Swiss Open Gstaad.

7. Nepal Prime Minister KP Oli resigns ahead of a no-confidence vote 


 
Nepal's Prime Minister K P Oli resigned from his post.

8. SBI to use IOC kisan seva centres to serve farmers 


 
SBI has engaged Indian Oil Corporation's Kisan Seva Kendras as banking correspondents to extend banking facilities to farmers across the country.

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has set up 6,500 KSKs in rural and remote areas which provide access to various agricultural inputs like diesel, seeds, fertilisers, pesticides to farmers.

The tie-up will help farmers avail the facilities of various products and services by SBI customer service points (CSPs) like savings account, term deposit, recurring deposit, micro credit, remittances, social security schemes, Aadhaar seeding through KSKs.

State Bank of India (SBI) has signed an MoU with IOC as part of its financial inclusion programme that will help the lender further its services to the farming community. 



9. ICICI, Axis banks join Swifts global payments initiative

 
Global payments leader SWIFT The initiative aims to enhance cross-border payments by leveraging Swifts messaging platform and global reach and in the first phase, the initiative will focus on business-to-business payments.
Designed to help corporates grow their international business, improve supplier relationships, and achieve greater treasury efficiencies, the new service will enable corporates to receive an enhanced payments service directly from their banks.
The service offers key features such as the same day use of funds, transparency and predictability of fees, end-to-end payments tracking, and transfer of rich payment information.

"The global payments innovation initiative is one such initiative where we believe that our clients will immensely benefit with same day credit, increased visibility and certainty of charges. This will enhance the payments product in the correspondent banking portfolio thereby enhancing our value proposition to corporate clients," Gupta said.
The Belgium-based Swift is a global member-owned cooperative and a leading provider of secure financial messaging services said ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have become the first domestic lenders to sign up for its global payments innovation initiative, which already has over 70 other leading banks globally.
