1. Abhinav Bindra chosen as India’s flagbearer at Rio 2016 Olympics
Olympic champion shooter Abhinav Bindra was chosen as the flagbearer of the Indian contingent at the Rio Games’ opening ceremony on August 5.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed that they have chosen the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medallist as the country’s flagbearer for the quadrennial extravaganza.
Bindra will be making his fifth Olympic appearance this year.
Alongside star boxer Vijender Singh, tennis legend Leander Paes and decorated grappler Sushil Kumar, Bindra’s name was under consideration prior to the 2012 London Games too, before the IOA gave the honour to the double Olympic medallist wrestler.
The 33-year-old is till date India’s only individual gold medallist at the Olympics.
The usually reserved shooter achieved the feat when he clinched a historic gold in 10-metre air rifle event at the Beijing Games in 2008.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) expressed its delight at the development.
“He is India’s only singular gold medallist, he is also in the executive board of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). We feel it’s a just decision, a wise decision and we whole-heartedly support it,” NRAI President Raninder Singh told PTI.
Winner of numerous medals at top international competitions including World Championships, World Cups, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, Bindra is also one of the goodwill ambassadors of the Indian contingent for the Rio Games and is working towards inspiring the athletes to give their best in the Brazilian city this summer.
2. Magicbricks partners SBI for 'Home Buying Festival'
Realty portal Magicbricks has partnered with State Bank of India(SBI) to organise an online home-buying festival.
"Magicbricks and State Bank of India (SBI) have launched India's biggest property festival, Home Buying Festival (HBF)," the portal said in a statement.
The three-week long online festival will kick start from June 10-30.

3. India and the US have regularly conducted the annual exercise since 1992
India, Japan and the US kicked off their annual naval war exercise named Malabar Exercise near South China Sea. The 8-day joint exercises will see in action over 100 aircraft and 22 naval ships including a nuclear submarine.
The exercise assumes significance as it is being conducted close to South China Sea at a time when Chinese assertiveness in the region is a raging issue. It aims to achieve deeper military ties and greater interoperability amid rising tensions in the region.
The Indian Navy said that their four ships are participating in the 20th edition of the naval exercise in consonance with India's 'Act East Policy' and growing ties among the three countries.
India and the US have regularly conducted the annual exercise since 1992. Since 2007, the Malabar has been held alternatively off India and in the Western Pacific. Last year, it was conducted off Chennai and included participation of Japan.
4. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu dedicates six railway facilities in Bihar
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated six rail facilities in Bihar including flagging off the weekly Motihari-Anand Vihar Champaran Satyagrah Express.
He flagged off the weekly Champaran Satyagrah Express at a function organised at M S College ground through remote and dedicated three Road Over Bridges at Danapur (Patna), Motihari and Begusarai railway stations.
Prabhu said two MOUs have already been signed for Rs 40,000 crore projects for setting up Diesel and Electric locomotive factories at Marhaura (Saran) and Madhepura, respectively.

National award-winning actor Kangana Ranaut, ace Director SS Rajamouli and Bollywood sensation Ranveer Singh got the creme de la creme at the CNN-News18 'Indian of the Year' 2015 awards for their contribution to the world of cinema.In a ceremony held here last night, Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley presented the award to the trio.
Director Rajamouli won the award for the major success of his movie Bahubal, which grossed over Rs 600 crore at the box office in 2015.The talented Director, while receiving the award, said ''I'm a man, who lives with cameras and lights, but get very nervous to be in front of them. The award would have been more complete, if it was given to team 'Baahubali' as the movie is all about team effort. We had a fantastic cast and crew. Without them, it wouldn't have been possible.
"Kangana, was given the Special Achievement award for "Standing alone in the male-driven industry.
Ranveer was awarded with a Special Achievement award for his roles in "Dil Dhadakne Do" and "Bajirao Mastani".

Canada's hockey icon Gordie Howe has died after a lengthy illness, his family confirmed on Friday. He was 88 years old.
Nicknamed as "Mr. Hockey", Howe is considered one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time and an ironman in many respects both on and off the ice.
Born in 1928 in Floral, Saskatchewan, Howe played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA).
