1. PM inaugurates Afghan-India Friendship Dam wapcos executes landmark infrastructure project 

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) with President of Afghanistan Dr. Ashraf Ghani at Chist-e-Sharif in Herat province in Western Afghanistan. Afghan-India Friendship Dam is a Multipurpose project planned for generating 42 MW of power, irrigating 75000 hectares of land, water supply and other benefits to the people of Afghanistan. Salma Dam is a landmark infrastructure project undertaken by Government of India on river Hari Rud , in Herat province of Afghanistan. The project was executed and implemented by WAPCOS Ltd., a Government of India Undertaking under Mministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. 

The project is located 165 km east of Herat town and connected with earthen road. Due to security reasons Indian engineers and technicians involved with the project have been reaching the site once in a month by helicopter service provided by Government of Afghanistan. All equipment and material were transported from India to Bander-e-Abbas port of Iran via sea and then along 1200 km by road from there to Islam Kila border post at Iran-Aghanistan border and then further 300 km by road from the border post to the site. Cement, steel reinforcement, explosives etc. were imported to Afghanistan from neighboring countries. The gross capacity of the Dam is 633 Million M3. The height of the Dam is 104.3 Mt, length 540 Mt and width at the bottom is 450 Mt. 

Rs.1775 crore project was funded by Government of India and took more than ten years to complete. The successful completion of the project represents culmination of years of hard work by 1,500 Indian and Afghan engineers and other professionals in very difficult conditions. 

2. Boxing legend Muhammad Ali dies at 74

Boxing icon Muhammad Ali died. He was 74.

Born Cassius Clay in 1942, Ali won his first 31 fights before suffering a loss and was named the world heavyweight champion by the World Boxing Association three different times, in 1964, 1974, and 1978. He was an Olympic gold medalist and a quick-footed dancer in the ring, lithe and smart and ready with trash talk to throw off his opponents.

3. India Post issues first My Stamp on ecommerce; features Amazon 

India Post released first 'My Stamp' on e-commerce featuring Amazon to commemorate three years of its partnership with the e-tailer. 

My Stamp are customised stamp on which any one can get their photo published on one side. The picture on the postage stamp features a boy carrying a box with Amazon.in written on it. 

Amazon uses India Post as a delivery channel. The company gets access to service customers in over 19,000 pin-codes through 1,55,000 post-offices which includes a majority of outlets in rural areas across all 35 states and union territories in the country. 

4. Tata Power-DDL wins 'Solar Utility of the Year Award'

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd has won the 'Solar Utility of the Year Award' at the Indian Rooftop Solar Summit 2016. 

Tata Power-DDL was awarded for taking innovative and positive steps to promote sustainable development of solar rooftop projects in Delhi and for the initiatives taken to encourage rooftop solar projects.

5. Telangana, California sign MoU for joint innovation

Telangana and California have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint innovation, exchange and cooperation in alternative energy, environmental technology, health, agriculture and other technology-based industry sectors, business innovation, research and development.

6. PM Narendra Modi conferred with Afghanistan's top civilian award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Afghanistan's highest civilian honour, the Amir Amanullah Khan Award.
