1. Rajnath Singh inaugurated Wi-fi service at charbagh railway station 

 
Union home minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Wi-Fi service at the Charbagh railway station in Lucknow.

The benifit can avail those Passengers who will be stepping onto the NR and NER stations. These passengers will be able to access Wi-Fi on all 3G and 4G compatible handsets and laptops as soon as they enter the premises, including at platforms, retiring rooms and waiting halls.

To log in, users will receive a password via a text message soon after they connect with the provider through their device.

The password will work for 24 hours.For this purpose, there would be more than 30 access point at all the eight platforms of NR, which will also cover the retiring room, dormitory and waiting rooms," said AK Singh, NR's senior Divisional Signal and Telecom Engineer (DSTE).

However, The service is part of the central government's project to provide Wi-Fi services at 400 railway stations across the country.While soft launches have taken place at around 10 stations across the country, Lucknow Junction would be the first to have such a facility in UP.

Indian Railways will provide the Internet service in collaboration with RailTel company, which is being assisted by Google.


2. Indian-American author Akhil Sharma bags top Irish award 


 
Indian-American author Akhil Sharma won the prestigious 100,000-euro International Dublin Literary Award, the worlds richest award for a single novel, for his second novel Family Life.

The Delhi-born New Yorker has already bagged the 2015 Folio Prize worth 40,000 pounds for his autobiographical novel that tells the tale of how a family moves from Delhi to New York, where the older brother has an accident that leaves him brain-damaged and in need of 24-hour care.

3. Bihar tops DIPP's real-time ease of doing biz ranking 


 
Bihar is at the top among all states and Union Territories (UTs) in terms of steps taken to improve the ease of doing business.

Nitish Kumar-led Bihar is followed by Telangana and Jharkhand on a ranking being done on a real-time basis by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) on business reforms and action plans.

These rankings are dynamic and may change on the basis of initiatives taken by states and UTs.

Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka are fourth and fifth, respectively. Bihar is leading with a score of 8.53 per cent. In last year's final rankings, Bihar was at 21st position.

4. N R Visakh becomes first Indian to win Mayor's chess 



Tamil Nadu teenager and International Master N R Visakh created history by becoming the first Indian to clinch the Mumbai Mayor's International Open Chess Tournament and lead a top-three sweep here today.

The 17-year-old Visakh drew his final round match with fellow-Indian and GM Diptayan Ghosh and was tied for the top place on 8 points with Ghosh and Chandigarh's Himal Gusain in a three-way tie.

The arbiters declared Visakh (ELO 2400) as the champion on a better tie-break as he drew with Ghosh in 16 moves. Gusain also finished on 8 points after a final round win over IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni.

Visakh thus became the first Indian to capture the title in its nine-year history and won Rs 3 lakh, while Ghosh took home Rs 2 lakh and Gusain Rs 1 lakh.

5. UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon honoured with Russia’s Order of Friendship 



Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding the Order of Friendship to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The officially published decree said that the decoration was awarded to Ban for special merits in strengthening peace, friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between peoples.

Among those awarded are Prince Michael of Kent, Oscar Niemeyer, the architect of the Brazilian capital, and former President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge.

The order, set up in 1994, is meant to reward Russian citizens and foreign nationals for outstanding accomplishments in strengthening peace and cooperation with Russia, as well as for charity activities.

Ban Ki-moon

• He took office and became the eighth secretary-general of the United Nations on 1 January 2007

• In June 2011, he was re-elected and will continue to serve as the UN chief until 31 December 2016.

• Before becoming Secretary-General, he was a career diplomat in South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the United Nations.

• He entered diplomatic service the year he graduated from university, accepting his first post in New Delhi, India.

• Ban was the foreign minister of South Korea from January 2004 to November 2006.

6. Ridley Scott to receive American Cinematheque Award 


 
English Director Ridley Scott will be honoured with the 30th American Cinematheque Award.

Scott was the unanimous choice of the Cinematheque Board of Directors selection committee.

Ridley Scott:

• Sir Ridley Scott is an English film director and producer.

• His best known works are the neo-noir dystopian science fiction film Blade Runner, crime drama Thelma & Louise, historical drama Gladiator, war film Black Hawk Down, crime thriller Hannibal, biographical film American Gangster, and science fiction films Prometheus and The Martian.

• In 1995, both Ridley and his brother Tony received the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema.

• In 2003, he was knighted for his services to the British film industry.

• In 2015, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Royal College of Art in London.

• The American Cinematheque Award annually honours an extraordinary artist in the entertainment industry who is fully engaged in his or her work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion pictures.

• Reese Witherspoon was the winner of the 2015 American Cinematheque Award.

7. Swedish Major General appointed to head UN mission in India, Pak 


 
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has appointed Swedish Major General Per Lodin, a logistics expert, to head the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) that monitors the situation in Kashmir. India does not recognize the UNMOGIP's mandate.

8. India signs up to Europe's anti-corruption plan


India has joined a group of nearly 40 nations that have signed a Europe-led clampdown on tax evasion and corruption.

Besides India, some of the other countries outside Europe on the list include Afghanistan, Nigeria, Mexico and the UAE.

The initiative aims to develop a global standard for the automatic exchange of beneficial ownership data between law enforcement agencies and tax authorities of partner countries.

9. Ola Money Partners With eBay, Two Other Online Market Platforms 


 
Ola Money, the wallet payment of cab aggregator Ola, has partnered with online marketplaces eBay, YepMe and AskmeBazaar, to allow customers to pay through its digital payment service.

Customers will also be eligible for an additional 10 per cent discount on the usage of Ola Money to make their payments on eBay, which will be valid till June 21, a company statement said.

At the time of payment on any of these platforms, both web and app, customers will get to choose Ola Money as one of their payment options.

On selection, a one touch check-out, if on the app, and a simple OTP authentication, if on the web, completes the payment.

Jharkhand adjudged 'top performing state' under PM Modi's Digital India programme 



Jharkhand was adjudged 'top performing state' under the Digital India Programme.

At a programme organised in Mumbai, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar gave away the award to Jharkhand for its work under the programme, an official release said.

Besides Jharkhand, Goa, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh also got awards as top performing states, the release added.
