1. English pacer James Anderson becomes number-one Test bowler 



England paceman James Anderson has topped the ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers for the first time in his career after bowling his side to a nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test.

Anderson (884) leads India's Ravichandran Ashwin by 13 points, who maintained the second position with 871 points. Ravindra Jadeja, another Indian featuring in the top ten, maintained his sixth position with 789 points.

Anderson took three for 36 in the first innings and five for 58 in the second, leapfrogging team-mate Stuart Broad and Ashwin to the coveted number-one position.

Anderson is the fourth England bowler to top the bowlers' table since Ian Botham first achieved this feat in 1980. Steve Harmison stormed up the chart in 2004, while Broad vaulted to the number-one position earlier this year following the Johannesburg Test against South Africa.

Broad, who took five wickets in the Test, has slipped behind Ashwin to third place after conceding three points.

Other bowlers to improve their rankings post the Chester-le-Street Test are Nuwan Pradeep (43rd, up by five places), Milinda Siriwardana (50th, up by 13 places) and Chris Woakes (73rd, up by 16 places).

In the batting table, England's Moeen Ali has achieved a career-high ranking of 35.

The left-handed batsman scored 155 not out, his career-best score in 25 Tests, which helped England to declare its first innings at 498 for nine. For this achievement, Ali has earned 82 points that has lifted him 12 places to a career-high 35th position in the Rankings for Test Batsmen.

2. Hero MotoCorp extends title sponsorship of Caribbean Premier League until 2018 


 
World's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp BSE 0.66 % Ltd (HMCL) extended its title sponsorship with the popular Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for another three years.

With this extension, CPL will continue to be called the 'Hero Caribbean Premier League' until the 2018 season.

The New Delhi-headquartered Hero MotoCorp became the title Sponsor of the Twenty20 cricket league in the Caribbean for the first time in 2015.

3. PM Modi Approves Retirement Age Of 65 Years For Doctors Of Central Services 



Superannuation age of all doctors in Central Health Service has been enhanced to 65 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said about the decision that will benefit about 4,000 doctors.

4. Government achieves 3.9% fiscal deficit target 


 
Government said that it has achieved the fiscal deficit target of 3.9 per cent of GDP in 2015-16.

"Fiscal deficit is 3.9 per cent of GDP or Rs 5.32 lakh crore in 2015-16," the Controller General of Accounts ( CGA ) said while releasing the provisional accounts for the last financial year .

For 2016-17, the government aims to further bring down the fiscal deficit -- the gap between expenditure and revenue -- to 3.5 per cent.

The CGA further said revenue deficit during the last fiscal was 2.5 per cent of GDP.

As per the provisional data, the fiscal deficit in April was Rs 1.37 lakh crore, which is 25.7 per cent of the Budget estimate as against 23 per cent a year ago.

The fiscal deficit for the whole year is estimated at Rs 5.33 lakh crore.

Total expenditure of the government in April was Rs 1.61 lakh crore, or 8.2 per cent of the full-year estimate.

5. Ashok Lavasa named Finance Secretary 


 
The government appointed Ashok Lavasa, a 1980 batch IAS officer of Harayna cadre, as the new finance secretary.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved designating Lavasa as the finance secretary, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said.

The post had been lying vacant since Ratan Watal retired in April. As per the convention, the seniormost among the five secretaries in finance ministry is designated as as the finance secretary. Earlier this month, Lavasa took over as secretary, expenditure in the finance ministry.

He is ranked higher than his batchmate Shaktikanta Das , the economic affairs secretary, and is due to retire in October 2017 while Das will retire in February next year.

6. India among 10 rich countries but average Indian quite poor: Report 


 
India has been ranked among the 10 wealthiest countries globally with total individual wealth of $5,200 billion, but this is largely owing to its large population, a report said, adding that on a per capita basis, the average Indian is "quite poor".

According to the report by New World Wealth, India has been ranked seventh in the list of top 10 wealthiest countries in the world, which was topped by the United States with total individual wealth of $48,700 billion.

"India only makes the W10 (10 wealthiest) due to its large population. On a per capita basis, the average Indian is quite poor," the report said, adding that over the past 15 years the country grew "strongly".

" China was the fastest growing W10 country over the past 15 years (2000-2015). Australia and India also grew strongly," it said.

Moreover, India has overtaken Italy this past year. Australia and Canada are expected to overtake Italy in the next couple of years.

Other countries in the top five list are China in the second position with a total individual wealth of $17,300 billion, Japan (3rd, $15,200 billion), Germany (4th, $9,400 billion) and United Kingdom (5th, $9,200 billion).

The other nations in the list include France at the 6th place with total individual wealth of $7,600 billion, Italy (8th, $5,000 billion), Canada (9th, $4,800 billion) and Australia (10th, $4,500 billion).

"Australia's ranking is impressive considering considering it only has 22 million people living there," the report said.

'Total individual wealth' refers to the private wealth held by all the individuals in each country.

The report defines 'wealth' as the net assets of a person. It includes all their assets (property, cash, equity, business interests) less any liabilities. The report excludes government funds from its figures.

7. India's per capita income rises 7.4% to Rs 93,293 


 
India's per capital income rose by 7.4 per cent to Rs 93,293 in 2015-16, compared to Rs 86,879 in the preceding fiscal, government data showed today.

"The per capita income at current prices during 2015-16 is estimated to have attained a level of Rs 93,293 as compared to the First Revised Estimate for the year 2014-15 of Rs 86,879 showing a rise of 7.4 per cent," as per data on Provisional Estimates of Annual National Income and Quarterly Estimates of Gross Domestic Product 2015-16.

The data was released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Per capita income is a broad indicator of prosperity.

8. Nishi Singh, Gopal Mukherjee appointed as CBDT members 



 
Senior bureaucrats Nishi Singh and Gopal Mukherjee were appointed as members in Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex direct taxes body.

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved their appointments, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said.

Both are the officers of Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre). While, Singh will have a tenure till July next year, Mukherjee will continue till January 2018, when they complete 60 years of age of superannuation.

CBDT consists of a chairman and six members.

Atulesh Jindal is CBDT chairman, while Rani S Nair, Sushil Chandra, S M Sahai and R C Mishra are other members.

9. Nuwan Kulasekara retires from Test cricket 


 
Sri Lankan bowler Nuwan Kulasekara announced his retirement from Test cricket.

Kulasekara played the last of his 21 Tests against England at Lord’s two years ago but has been a standout performer in one-dayers, with 186 wickets from 173 matches, and was ranked the top ODI bowler in March 2009.

10. Li Na becomes 60th member of Laureus Academy 


 
Retired Chinese tennis star Li Na has been named the 60th member of the Laureus World Sports Academy.

She was inducted in Paris, the city where she became the first Chinese player to win a Grand Slam title in 2011.

The former world No.2 joins the 59 fellow sporting legends in the Laureus Academy including tennis greats Boris Becker, Ilie Nastase, Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles.

One of China's greatest ever athletes, the 34-year-old Li Na's tennis career was defined by firsts. She was the first Chinese player to win a WTA title, the first Chinese player to break into the top ten in the world rankings and the first Asian player ever to win a Grand Slam.

11. Indian banker awarded for promoting green economy 



A Qatar-based Indian banker has been awarded the 'Green Economy Visionary award' for his contribution in environment-friendly activities and for promoting green economy for nearly two decades.

R Seetharaman, Group CEO of Doha Bank, was awarded at the 2016 Unionof Arab Banks International Banking Summit held in Rome on Monday.

He received the award from Mohammed Jarrah Al-Sabah, Chairman of Union of Arab Banks.

It was given to him for his outstanding contribution close to two decades towards environment-friendly activities and thereby promoting green economy.

Seetharaman is a recipient of multiple doctorates.
Doha Bank was incorporated in 1978 and commenced its banking business (including its International Banking services) in Doha, Qatar on March 15, 1979. 


12. Finance Ministry expects GDP growth to improve to 8% in 2016-17  


The Finance Ministry said it expects GDP growth rate to notch up to 8 per cent in the current financial year.

Economy grew at 7.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2015-16 taking the growth rate for the entire fiscal to a five-year high of 7.6 per cent, mainly on account of good performance of manufacturing sector although farm sector grew at a much slower pace


13. Popular Bollywood actor Razzak Khan passes away 


Actor Razzak Khan, who is popularly known for his role of Manikchand in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Baadshah, passed away.

The list of his popular films include Hello Brother, Joru Ka Ghulam and Kyaa Kool Hain Hum and many more. The comic actor made his debut in Bollywood with Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja in 1993 and was seen in more that 90 movies in his entire career span. He had also appeared on Kapil Sharma’s show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ in 2014.
