1. World Environment day is celebrated today.

 
Minister of State for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar called on citizens to plant more trees and create one's own oxygen bank on the occasion of World Environment.

United Nations celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 every year to raise global awareness and motivate action for environmental protection.

The theme for the World Environment Day-2016 is 'fight against the illegal trade in wildlife'.

India has four of the 10 cities in the world with the worst air pollution, the World Health Organization said last month.


In terms of Budget Announcement 2016-17, Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off the inaugural run of the Tiger Trail Circuit Train from Delhi Safdarjung Station. Shri Suresh Prabhu who was on tour to Mumbai, flagged off this train through video conferencing between Mumbai and Delhi.

Garbine Muguruza is the first Spanish woman to win here since Arantxa Sanchez Vicario beat Monica Seles in the final in 1998.

3. World's longest train tunnel 'Gotthard Base Tunnel' opens in Switzerland.


 
Gotthard Base Tunnel,world's longest and deepest tunnel has finally opened in Switzerland.

Stretching for 35 miles under the Swiss Alps, the Gotthard Base Tunnel will connect the cities of Bodio and Erstfeld, as part of an ambitious high-speed rail line, the Verge quoted the New York Times.

Full service is expected to begin in December, with passenger trains travelling at a maximum speed of 155 miles per hour.

The tunnel was constructed at extravagant USD 12.2 billion.

4. Indian artist Sudarshan Shetty to join 'Rolls-Royce Art Programme'



Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced joining of Sudarshan Shetty for the Rolls-Royce Art Programme, which includes enigmatic sculptural installations that reflect on urban contemporary life.

Sudarshan Shetty, who is one of the most renowned Indian artists of his generation and is acclaimed for his artistic practice, will take the form of a two-channel film, anchored by two sculptures.

5.
India, Qatar ink 7 agreements to boost cooperation



An MoU was signed between Qatar Investment Authority and External Affairs Ministry for investment in National Investment and Infrastructure Fund between the two countries that would facilitate foreign investment from the gas-rich Gulf state.

An MoU signed between Finance Intelligence Unit India (FIU-IND) and the Qatar Financial Information Unit (QFIU) would help in tracking money flow and investment from Qatar to India. It would also help authorities to safeguard against money laundering, terrorism financing and other economic offences.

Modi was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the Emiri Diwan that was followed with official bilateral talks between the two leaders.
