1. India, NZ concludes food safety cooperation arrangement 

To boost trade in food products, India and New Zealand announced conclusion of food safety cooperation arrangement to encourage greater coordination between food authorities of the two countries. 

2. Indian-origin Singaporean awarded for his life-saving efforts 



Singapore honoured Indian-origin U Silvakumar with Public Spiritedness Award for his life-saving efforts to help an elderly unconscious Chinese man. 

U Silvakumar, a military expert, put his life-saving instincts to pratice and used cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) process to help the Chinese man who was lying unconscious near a Hindu temple before the ambulance arrived. 

3. Two gold medals for India at Commonwealth Championships 



Guru Raja (56kg) and Joti Mal (53kg) opened the medal account for India, striking gold in their respective events at the Commonwealth Senior (Men and Women) Weightlifting Championships being held at Penang, Malaysia. 

Raja lifted 249kg (108kg+141kg) in the men's event, while Joti Mal 175kg (73kg+102kg) in the women's category. 

Gopal Anbarasu (62kg) lifted 259kg (115kg+144kg) fetched a bronze medal. 

4. Malaika Vaz wins Wildscreen National Geographic award


Goa-born Malaika Vaz has won the 2016 Wildscreen National Geographic Roar Talent Bursary Award at the recently held Wildscreen festival. 

19-year-old Vazs short-film "Waghoba", which depicts real life story of a newly protected forest in Maharashtra, was critically acclaimed at the Festival in Bristol, United Kingdom. 

Vaz is an intern student of Bengaluru-based Felis Creations. 

The bursary award is given to only one wildlife story teller from across the world. 

For the first time in the history of the festival an Indian has bagged this award. 

5. Indian documentary wins at CAM International Film Festival 




Indian Documentary film "Daughters of Mother India", directed by Vibha Bakshi, has won at the 6th CAM International Film Festival in Cairo. 

According to a statement by the Embassy of India in Egypt, the film won the first prize in the documentary section of the festival. 

The festival was organized by theArabic Egyptian Society for Culture, Media and Arts (CMA) from October 8-13. 

"Daughters of Mother India" portrays India's story of resolve, hope and courage in the fight against gender violence. 

CAM International Film Festival is organized annually to promote cinema as a means of combating ignorance, poverty and terrorism. 

This year's edition featured around 92 films from 33 countries in three categories: Short Fiction, Documentary and Animation. India was the Guest of Honor in the Film Festival with 12 entries.
