1. Prabhu lays foundation stone for railway projects in MP



Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu laid foundation stone of Rs 2,200 crore projects for laying broad gauge connecting Rewa-Sidhi-Singrauli districts and the new Sidhi railway station building in Madhya Pradesh.

At the function in Sidhi, he said 900-km railway lines will be constructed and 1,000-km tracks will be double lined and electrified in next three years.

In Jabalpur, Prabhu said to give a fillip to the electrification programme in India, a meeting has been organised on November 3 in New Delhi.

In West Central Railways, the electrification of railway line is being carried out on Katni-Singrauli route and Itarsi-Katni-Manikpur section, the railway minister said addressing a function.

He also dedicated WiFi internet facility, water vending machine and multi-functional complex at Jabalpur station.

The Minister heaped praises on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and described him as "one of the visionary chief ministers".

An investment in railways in Madhya Pradesh is bound to benefits the entire country as trains from the state run to north, south, east and west, Prabhu said.

He called Chouhan to come out with the model plan for railway investment in the state to expand the rail network.

Till year 2014, the funds allocation for various railways projects going on in MP was Rs 632 crore, which have now increased to Rs 2,171 crore by the Centre, Prabhu added.

2. Indian Boxing Council inducted in WBO




The Indian Boxing Council, a licensing body for the country's professional boxers, has been inducted into the World Boxing Organisation with voting rights in the WBO's annual convention at Puerto Rico. 

IBC President Brig. PKM Raja attended the meet in which the Indian body was welcomed into the fold by WBO founder Chairman Luis Batista Salas.

3. Kochi gets FIFA nod to host FIFA U-17 World Cup



Kochi became the first Indian city to be officially declared as one of the venues for hosting the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup after it received a green signal from a high-level delegation of football's world body. 

After visiting the Jawarharlal Nehru International Stadium, a 23-member high-level delegation comprising experts from FIFA and Local Organising Committee (LOC) ratified Kochi as the venue for next year's mega event.

4. India to Lease Second Russian Akula-Class Nuclear Attack Submarine



In a deal reportedly worth close to $2 billion, India is set to acquire a second Akula 2 nuclear-powered attack submarine from Russia.

The contract for this, which has been unannounced so far, was finalised in Goa along with a slew of other defence deals worth more than $5 billion which have been made public.

The Indian Navy already operates an Akula 2 class nuclear submarine, INS Chakra (formerly known as K-152 Nerpa), which was leased from Russia and commissioned on April 4, 2012 after India paid for its completion and sea-trials.

The lease of the 8,140 ton submarine was signed for a period of 10 years and with the lease set to expire in a few years, the Indian Navy has been keen acquire a second Russian nuclear submarine.

For the last several months, there have been reports that the Indian Navy was keen on leasing the much more advanced Project 885 Yasen Class nuclear attack submarine, the newest class of submarine to enter Russia's arsenal.

A Yasen-class nuclear attack submarine that India was reportedly keen on leasing.

However, at the moment, only one submarine of the Yasen class, the Severodvinsk, has entered service with the Russian Navy with construction of the seven remaining submarines of the class progressing slowly. Unable to wait indefinitely for a new-build Yasen, the Indian Navy has gone ahead and signed up for a second Russian Akula 2, a submarine which it now has considerable experience in operating.

The Akula 2 class submarine, while not the latest class of nuclear powered fast attack submarine in the world, is still considered one of the most advanced. Capable of sailing at speeds up to 35 knots (nearly 65 km per hour) under water, the Akula 2 is among the quietest submarines to have been built by Russia, a defining feature of the boat which makes tracking it underwater very difficult.

5. India, Myanmar signed 3 MoUs including Cooperation in the field of Power Sector



India and Myanmar signed three agreements to boost the bilateral relations between the two nations. Keeping in view the sensitivity of each other’s strategic interests, the two nations also agreed for close security coordination in border areas.

6. INS Tihayu commissioned



The 315-tonne INS Tahiyu is the sixth WJFAC Car Nicobar Class vessel to be commissioned and allotted to the Eastern Fleet of the Navy.

Water Jet Fast Attack Craft (WJFAC) INS Tihayu was commissioned into the Indian Navy by the Flag-Officer-Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht.
