1. China decommissions its 1st nuclear submarine



China's first nuclear-powered submarine has been decommissioned after more than 40 years of military service.

After undergoing a thorough denuclearization process, the submarine was towed to a wharf belonging to the Chinese Navy Museum in Qingdao, a port city in east Chinas Shandong province yesterday where it will be a public exhibit, state- run Xinhua news agency reported.

The submarines release from military service and the safe, thorough and reliable handling of related nuclear waste, nuclear reactor and other devices showed Chinas life-cycle maintenance ability, ranging from a nuclear submarines production, operation, and management to disposal, the report quoted the naval authorities as saying.

China reported to have five nuclear submarines and 15 conventional ones with several others under construction. 

2. Reliance Def & Engg appoints Madan Pendse CFO



Reliance Defence & Engineering Ltd said its board has appointed Madan Pendse as its chief financial officer (CFO).

3. SSFL season III from Oct 19; Jayasuriya brand ambassador



Into its third edition, the Stairs School Football League (SSFL) beginning October 19 will see more than 10,000 school level footballers from 300 schools of Delhi NCR playing for glory.

This year, former Sri Lankan explosive batsman Sanath Jayasuriya has been named brand ambassador of the tournament. SSFL-3 will begin with league matches at over 15 different venues across four zones in Delhi. The finals will be played at the Thyagraj Stadium. A total of 250 matches will be played during the entire programme.

All the participating teams will have to go through the qualifier rounds.

SSFL aligns itself with the FIFA rules of football for boys and girls between 14-17 years of age.

4. Hardik Pandya becomes fourth Indian to win Man of the Match on ODI debut



All-rounder Hardik Pandya made his ODI debut in the first match of the series against New Zealand at Dharamsala.

5. MS Dhoni surpasses Allan Border, becomes second most successful skipper in ODI history



Mahendra Singh Dhoni recorded his 108th victory as India skipper to go past former Australia captain Allan Border's tally of 107 wins in the list of most victories by an ODI captain in the history of the game.

The six-wicket win over New Zealand in the first of the five ODIs in Dharamsala has put Dhoni second in the list headed by former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, who won a massive 165 games in 230 matches. The victory was also special as it came in India's 900th ODI. The 35-year-old has captained India in 195 matches with a win percent of 59.78.
