1. India shows 2nd highest growth in science research: Report



India is at the second position among countries with the highest increase in their contribution to high-quality scientific research, according to a new report which shows that the growth of research in the country is only behind China. 

The institutions from India among the top 100 highest performers across the globe include Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Indian Institute of Science (IIS) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). 

While India made its mark, Chinese institutions are leading the world in rapidly increasing high-quality research outputs, according to the Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars report. 

As many as 40 of the top 100 performers are from China, with 24 of those showing growth above 50 per cent since 2012. 

The US - which remains the largest contributor to high-quality scientific papers overall - has 11 entrants into the top 100, despite many starting from a high base. 

Nine institutions feature from the UK, eight from Germany and five from India. 

The Rising Stars report used the Nature Index which tracks the author affiliations of published research articles by more than 8,000 global institutions in a group of 68 journals.

2. Tata Communication, Skylab join hands to take IoT far and wide


Tata Communications and Skylab, a Singapore-basedtechnology solutions provider, have announced a partnership to help more enterprises adopt the Internet of Things (IoT).

Skylab provides advanced data harvesting, processing and delivery solutions to its customers over a scalable platform called Data Logistics Cloud (DLC).

"Skylab has chosen Tata Communications as its cloud partner to ensure high levels of flexibility and reliability for customers through Tata Communications' IZO Cloud Enablement Platform and leading global network and partnerships," Tata Communications said in a statement.

Tata Communications' IZO Cloud Enablement Platform allows enterprises to connect and build their cloud their way - be it private, public or hybrid. It is supported by Tata Communications' infrastructure.

3. Harika Dronavalli breaks into top-five in world rankings


India's Grand Master Harika Dronavalli broke back into the top five in the world chess rankings after a commanding show in the Isle of Man International Chess tournament. 

This is the second time during this year that Harika has scaled such heights, soaring on a series of wins and commendable performances.

Harika not only finished with 5.5 points in the Isle of Man tournament that saw some of the best chess players in action but also emerged as the one of the top woman player at the event. She won as many as four games out of nine, including a breakthrough victory over world no. 1 Hou Yifan of China. She drew three other games and lost only two in a highly demanding format. 

The 25-year-old Hyderabadi gained 15.4 crucial points in the bargain to take her live ratings from 2528 to 2543.4. That was good enough to pull her up from her tenth position to a commendable World No. 5. 

4. Morocco: Abdelilah Bekirane appointed for another term as PM



Abdelilah Bekirane, leader of Morocco's Islamic Justice and Development Party, was appointed as country's Prime Minister. This will be his second term as Prime Minister of Morocco.

Mohammed VI, the king of Morocco, made the announcement after Benkirane's PJD party emerged with the most number of seats in the 395-seat lower house of parliament.
