1. Governor presents Parmarth Seva Ratna Award to Sajjan Jindal



Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao presented Parmarth Seva Ratna Award to Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Group.

The award was presented to Sajjan Jindal at a function at Hotel Trident here yesterday in recognition of the community service rendered by him through the Jindal Foundation, a release from Raj Bhavan said.

Paying rich tributes to the philanthropic spirit of the Marwari community to which Jindal belongs, the Governor said members of the community have rendered matchless service to society by setting up schools, colleges and dharam shalas across the country.

2. India films shine in Aisa Pacific Screen awards nominations



Six Indian films have bagged eight major nominations in the 10th edition of Asia Pacific Screen awards this year. 

Bollywood thriller "Psycho Raman," directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been nominated in three categories including best actor, achievement in cinematography and achievement in directing.

In the best performance by an actor category, Nawazuddin is up againstManoj Bajpayeefor"Aligarh," Dev Patelfor "Lion," Farhad Aslanifor"Daughter" and Korean superstarSong Kang-ho, who is nominated for "The Throne". 

In the category of best screenplay, two Indian films -- Leena Yadav's"Parched"and Supratik Senand Gurvinder Singh's "The Fourth Direction"-- are nominated. 

The Asia Pacific Screen awards is said to bethe region's highest accolade in filmwhich recognizes and promotes cinematic excellence and cultural diversity of the world's fastest growing film regioncomprising 70 countries. 

Vying for best feature film are Mustafa Kara's richly symbolic Northern Turkish tale"Cold of Kalandar," Reza Mirkarimi's "Daughter" ,Zeki Demirkubuz' slow-burn psychological drama"Ember,"Kirill Serebrennikov's "The Student" and passion project by Iranian master Majid Majidi,"Muhammad: the Messenger of God." 

APSA Film Director and member of the APSA International Nominations Council Maxine Williamson said "It has been a privilege and an honour to establish this Awards competition and see it grown in strength from year to year. How fitting that we have, in our 10thyear, the strongest competition to date." 

The winners will be announced on November 24th this yearin Brisbane. 

3. PM Modi Launches 7 Schemes Worth Rs. 5,000 Crore in His Constituency



With an aim of boosting development in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched seven schemes at the total cost of Rs. 5000 crore amid his assertion that his government believes in timely completion of projects.

The schemes launched included "Urja Ganga", an ambitious gas pipeline project which will bring piped cooking fuel to residents of this ancient temple town besides catering to millions of consumers in neighbouring states. Other programmes launched were expansion of Diesel Locomotive Works, dedication of 765/400 KV GIS Varanasi Power Sub-station and inauguration of Varanasi Postal Region.

PM Modi also laid foundation stone for second line and electrification of Allahabad-Varanasi rail line and unveiled setting up of perishable cargo centre at Rajatalab Railway Station.

Speaking at the occasion, he said his government has focused on timely completion of projects and has worked towards ensuring that not only are foundations laid, but projects are also inaugurated on time.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for doubling and electrification of 120-km-long Varanasi-Madhosingh-Allahabad railway line involving an expenditure of Rs. 750.66 crore.

He also dedicated to the nation an expansion project of the Diesel Locomotive Works, which had commenced in 2014, months after he became the Prime Minister.

He felicitated select beneficiaries of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and handed over LPG connections to select Ujjwala beneficiaries. He also released a commemorative postage stamp on Varanasi City.

4. Maharashtra Guv inaugurates 'World Peace Conference'



Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao inaugurated the 19th 'World Peace Conference'. 

"Main aim of the education institutes is to strengthen people to search truth and utilise education for development of the society," Rao said.

The conference is organised jointly by city-based Gokhale Education Society (GES) and International Association of Educators for World Peace.
