1. Suresh Prabhu Dedicates “Rail Geet” To the Nation
Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu dedicated a “Rail Geet” (Railway Song) to the nation. The initial wordings of the song are – “Bharat ki Rail Mahan hai – Pragati ki Pehchan hai – Bharat ki ye Shan hai – Desh ki ye Jaan hai – Indian Railways, We love Indian Railways”
This Geet has been composed by noted Music Director Shravan & has been sung by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurti.
2. MoC Shri Manoj Sinha unveils postage stamps on Rio Olympics
Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha unveiled the Commemorative Postage Stamps on Rio Olympic Games.
3. Vijay Rupani new Gujarat CM, Nitin Patel deputy
Vijay Rupani was chosen as the new Chief Minister of Gujarat to succeed Anandiben Patel, pipping Nitin Patel who was considered a sure pick for the top job in the poll-bound state.
Nitin Patel, seen as the front runner for the top slot after Anandiben offered to resign, was made deputy Chief Minister. It is for the first time that Gujarat will have a deputy chief minister. The announcement was made by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who was assigned as the partys observer, after the BJP legislature party meeting which elected 61-year-old Rupani as its leader. The names of Rupani and Nitin Patel were proposed by Anandiben Patel and seconded by several MLAs.
The decision to make Rupani as chief minister and Nitin Patel, the incumbent health minister, as his deputy was taken at hectic parleys involving BJP President Amit Shah and Gadkari.
The BJP legislature party meeting, which was to start at 4 PM began two hours late, apparently due to parleys involving top leaders.
Earlier in the day, Nitin Patels office had claimed that his name has been finalised by the BJP to fill the position that fell vacant by Anandiben's resignation.
4. Madhuri Dixit Nene is now the brand ambassador of 'MAA- Mother's Absolute Affection' campaign
The Union Government has launched a campaign MAA- Mother’s Absolute Affection in collabration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to promote breastfeeding and Bollywood Actress Madhuri Dixit has been appointed as the Ambassador for this campaign.
5. Ex-RBI DG Sinha joins IDFC Bank Board as independent director
Private sector lender IDFC Bank said former RBI Deputy Governor Anand Sinha has joined its Board as an independent director, while Vinod Rai has stepped down because of his appointment as chief of Banks Board Bureau (BBB).
Rai, who was a nominee of the banks infra lender parent IDFC Ltd on the Board, stepped down "to avoid any potential conflict of interest" which may arise because of his appointment as the chief of BBB, the bank said in a statement.
He has also served as Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
Sinha, a career central banker, oversaw the last round of bank licensing in which IDFC Bank was selected along with Bandhan to launch universal banks among nearly two dozen hopefuls.
Sinha joined law firm Amarchand Mangaldas as a senior advisor and has also been associated with private equity major KKR as an industry advisor.
He joined the RBI in 1976, and was in-charge of regulation of commercial banks, Non-Banking Financial Companies, Urban Cooperative Banks and Information Technology, the statement said.
6. Nakao re-elected as ADB president
The board of Asian Development Bank has re-elected Takehiko Nakao as the President of the bank for a five-year term beginning November.
