1. Nepal reappoints Deep Kumar Upadhyay as envoy to India


The Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda-led government in Nepal has decided to reappoint Deep Kumar Upadhyay as Nepal’s new ambassador to India.

Upadhyay, who had been serving as Nepal’s ambassador to India since April 2015, was suddenly recalled by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government in May.

2. NSDC, US-India ACP join hands for aviation skill development


National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and US-India Aviation Cooperation Programme (ACP) have entered into a cooperation agreement for skill development in India's aviation sector. 

Under this both the organisations will set up a Centre of Excellence focused on skill development programmes in aviation.

3. Kiran M Shaw appointed 'Knight of Legion of Honour' by France


Biocon chairperson and managing director Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been appointed 'Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur' (Knight of the National Order of the French Legion of Honour) for her outstanding contribution and dedication to Biosciences and Research field globally.

4. Railway launches insurance scheme for passengers travelling on e-ticket


Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched an insurance scheme for passengers travelling on e- ticket. The insurance cover will be up to 10 lakh rupees.

The insurance coverage will be available in case of train accidents and other untoward incidents, including terrorist attack, dacoity, rioting, shooting or arson.

Features of the Scheme

• A person booking a train ticket through the IRCTC website will be eligible for the travel insurance and it is optional.

• To avail the facility, train passengers will have to pay 92 paisa premium.

• The insurance cover will not be applicable for children up to 5 years of age and foreign citizens.

• The facility will be available only for confirmed and RAC ticket passengers.

• There will be no refund of the premium in case of ticket cancellation.

• The scheme offers travellers or nominees a compensation of 10 lakh Rupees in the event of death or total disabilty, 7.5 lakh Rupees for partial disability, up to 2 lakh Rupees for hospitalisation expenses and 10000 rupees for transportation of mortal remains from the place of a train accident.

• The compensation claim has to be made within four months of the incident and the insurance company is required to process the claim within 15 days of receipt of the require documents.

Shriram General Insurance Company, ICICI Lombard and Royal Sundaram General Insurance have been roped in by Indian railways for providing the insurance cover.

5. Jackie Chan to get lifetime achievement Oscar


The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the Martial arts expert and actor Jackie Chan will be awarded with a lifetime achievement Oscar.

6. Rudy inaugurated Telangana skill development programme


Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (independent charge) Rajiv Pratap Rudy inaugurated Telangana Jagruthi Skill Development programme in Hyderabad.
