Human rights activist and Founder president of NGO Rural Litigation Entitlement Kendra, Avdhash Kaushal has been awarded with the Satpal Mittal National award in the individual category for rendering outstanding service to humanity.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh besides a citation and a memento.
Kaushal also bagged Nani A Palkhiwala award last year for his contribution to Civil Liberties.
India and Japan signed 10 pacts covering a range of areas such as boosting Japanese investment in infrastructure, railways, and for cooperation in space and agriculture, as part of agreements to bolster bilateral ties.
A MoU was signed between the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development to enable cooperation and promote investment in infrastructure projects in railways & transportation; port terminals; toll roads; airport terminals and urban development.
Two memorandum of understandings were signed to boost cooperation in space technology. One of the MoUs between Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) concerned cooperation in outer space in satellite navigation and planetary exploration.
It also included joint missions and joint use of ground systems for mutual support.
The other MoU between India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science aims to promote cooperation in areas of joint survey and research, and exchange of scientific visits by researchers and experts.
India and Japan also signed a landmark deal for civil nuclear cooperation after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Shinzo Abe. The move is likely to boost bilateral economic and security ties and facilitate US-based players to set up atomic plants in India.
The deal allows Japan to export nuclear technology to India, making it the first non-NPT signatory to have such a deal with Tokyo. It cements bilateral economic and security ties as the two nations warm up to counter an assertive China.
National Skill Development Agency and The British Council signed a MoU at NSDA’s office to collaborate for undertaking joint research projects in the area of skill development. Alan Gemmell, Director- India, The British Council and Dr. Sunita Chhibba, DG-NSDA signed the MoU.
This collaboration comes as a part of strengthening the overall research mechanism in skill development space and to encourage research collaborations with various national and international organizations. Under this partnership, The British Council and the National Skill Research Division (NSRD), a research division under the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) will work closely with each other to build research collaborations between the UK and India over a period of three years in the skilling domain. The topic for the joint research study in first year of collaboration is “Future Skills” that will focus on, understanding labour market trends and identifying future employment in India in selected manufacturing and service sectors in view of changing technology.
The partnership aims to promote knowledge exchange and research collaborations between UK and India in the skills space and to strengthen capacity of research organisations in both the countries so as to be able to work in collaborative research environments in the Sector.
This kind of collaboration is in alignment with the overall mandate of the recently established National Skill Research Division that will serve as a think tank on research related to skill development and evolve as a credible research organization in skills space at the national level.
India men’s hockey captain P R Sreejesh has been named as one of the candidates for 2016 Goalkeeper of the Year award of the FIH while Harmanpreet Singh made the grade as one of the 2016 Rising Women Star of the Year nominees.
The nominees for the 2016 Hockey Stars Awards, the annual prizes recognising the best players, goalkeepers, rising stars, coaches and umpires in a given calendar year were announced during the Hockey Revolution Part 2 Conference of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Dubai.
There was no Indian in the 2016 Player of the Year nominations (both men and women) and in the 2016 Coach of the Year nominations (both men and women). Five male and five female nominees have been selected for each award. The player, goalkeeper and rising star awards were selected by a panel consisting of the FIH Athletes’ Committee, Continental Federations, Coaches and media. All awards are based on performance at international events during the 2016 season, as well as the player’s overall contribution to the sport.
