1. Legendary poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen dies at 82
Leonard Cohen, the storied musician and poet hailed as one of the most visionary artists of his generation. He was 82.
Surat has been adjudged as the best in Integrated Mass Transit, while Dharwad-Hubli (Karnataka) has the best city bus service, the Union Urban Development Ministry said as it announced the names of cities for their commendable initiatives towards promotion of public transport, non-motorised transport and road safety.

Researchers observed a microlensing event, when a distant star brightens due to the gravitational field of at least one foreground cosmic object.
This technique is useful for finding low-mass bodies orbiting stars, such as planets. In this case, the observations revealed a brown dwarf.
Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre laid the foundation stone of Centre of Propulsion Technology here, set up by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) alongwith with IIT-Bombay and IIT-Madras to support country's plans for developing aero- engines and hypersonic propulsion for long duration flight.
The centre, established at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay in Powai here, will be operational in the next two years and the research there will be jointly conducted by IIT-Bombay and IIT-Madras.
This is the third such centre being set up where a premier academic institute has been roped in for defence related research and development of technology.
Earlier, similar centres have been set up in Kolkata and Delhi.
Bhamre said the centre is going to be a game-changing institution in the field of defence research.
