1. Uttarakhand Ratna for ND Tiwari



Chief Minister Harish Rawat conferred the Uttarakhand Ratna award on former chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari on the occasion of the state's 17th foundation day.

2. Nadda launches health app to measure stress levels



Union Health Minister J P Nadda launched 'No More Tension' mobile application with which people can measure their stress levels, understand its reasons and adopt ways to fight it. 

Users will also have access to a one-stop-for-all health portal, which will host all the mobile applications launched by the Health Ministry.

3. Govt rolls out Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana for entrepreneurs



The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship announced launch of Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana to scale up an ecosystem of entrepreneurship for youngsters. 

"The scheme spans over five years (2016-17 to 2020-21) with a project cost of Rs 499.94 crore and will provide entrepreneurship education and training to over 7 lakh students in 5 years through 3,050 institutes," an official statement said. 

"It will also include easy access to information and mentor network, credit, incubator and accelerator and advocacy to create a pathway for the youth." Speaking on the occasion, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana has national and international best practices of learning in entrepreneurship education.

4. Fontaine replaces Ramachandran as World Squash Federation president



Jacques Fontaine was elected as the new president of the World Squash Federation (WSF) following the completion of the Indian N Ramachandran's second and final four-year term.

Fontaine becomes the Federation's ninth president since the WSF's inception in 1967 - the first Frenchman and third European - and was elected by delegates representing a record-breaking 59 National Federations attending the 46th WSF AGM.

5. G Mahalingam takes charge as Sebi Whole-Time Member



Former Reserve Bank Executive Director G Mahalingam took charge as a Whole-Time Member of capital markets regulator Sebi. 

In his new role, Mahalingam will handle integrated surveillance, investment management, enforcement department, foreign portfolio investors and custodians, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said.

6. China launches pulsar navigation satellite



China launched a navigation satellite which will conduct in-orbit experiments using pulsar detectors to demonstrate new technologies. 

The X-ray pulsar navigation satellite, weighing more than 200 kilogrammes, was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the country's northwest.

It was carried by a Long March-11 rocket, the 239th flight mission by a Long March carrier rocket series. 

While in orbit, the satellite will undergo tests on its detector functions and space environment adaptability. 

The satellite and the rocket were designed by academies affiliated with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. 

The X-ray pulsar navigation will help reduce the spacecraft's reliance on ground-based navigation methods and is expected to lead to autonomous spacecraft navigation in the future.

7. Saina, Sindhu go low; Marin tops price list at PBL auction



Rio Games silver medallist P V Sindhu and London bronze winner Saina Nehwal went for low prices even as current Olympic champion Carolina Marin emerged as the costliest buy at the players auction of the second edition of the Premier Badminton League (PBL).

Two-time World Champion Marin was bagged by Hyderabad Hunters for Rs 61.5 lakhs, while male shuttler Kidambi Srikanth, who had reached the quarterfinals at Rio Olympics, fetched the highest amount by an Indian, when he was purchased for Rs 51 lakhs by the Awadhe Warriors after a bidding battle with the Blasters.

Sindhu was unlucky to fetch an amount of just Rs 39 lakhs despite being the best Indian iconic player after her performance at the Rio Olympics.

Saina, who alongwith Lee Chong Wei, was the costliest buys at USD 100,000 during the first edition, went unsold in the first round of bidding and was retained by her previous franchise Awadhe Warriors for the base price of Rs 33 lakhs.

8. Ishaat Hussain named interim chairman of TCS



Tata Consultacy Services (TCS) has said that Tata Sons has appointed Ishaat Hussain as the chairman of the company. Tata Sons has also issued a special notice to convene an extraordinary general meeting.
