Virtuoso Hungarian pianist and conductor Zoltan Kocsis, celebrated for his versatile technique, has died at the age of 64.
Kocsis had served as musical director of the National Philharmonic Orchestra since 1997 and became a household name among music fans from the United States to Japan as he took the ensemble on tour.
Filipino star Manny Pacquiao reclaimed the World Boxing Organization welterweight title for the third time with a unanimous decision victory over former champion Jesse Vargas.
Pacquiao won the WBO title for the first time in 2010 when he beat Miguel Cotto. He lost it two years later to Bradley, then got it back by winning the rematch with Bradley in 2014.
3. Indian women win first Asian Champions Trophy title
The Indian hockey team registered a 2-1 victory over China to claim the women's Asian Champions Trophy title in Singapore.
This is the first time that India have won the continental tournament. They had previously faced Japan in the final of the 2013 edition of the tournament where they had lost to the hosts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first ever International Agro-biodiversity Congress, IAC in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was attended by 900 delegates from 60 countries. The event helped to initiate and encourage a dialogue among stakeholders, including farmers.
The conference which will be held from November 6 to 9, is being organised by the Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources and Biodiversity International, a CGIAR Research Centre headquartered in Rome, Italy.
An Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) release on the event read “India is the perfect venue for the first-ever International Agro biodiversity Congress as it is one of the most diverse countries in the world. It takes up only 2.4 per cent of the world’s land area and yet it harbours 7-8 per cent of all recorded species, including over 45,000 species of plants and 91,000 species of animals.”
Britain's star tennis player, Andy Murray defeated American John Isner to win the Paris Masters title.
Celebrating the best season of his career, Andy Murray cemented his rise to No. 1 by beating John Isner to win the Paris Masters for the first time.
It was his eighth title this year, his 14th in Masters overall. It also ended Isner’s bid for a first Masters title.
P Harikrishna created history by becoming only the second Indian to break into the top 10 world rankings.
The 30-year-old has been ranked 10th in the latest FIDE ratings.
