1. China launches satellite to monitor global carbon emissions


China launched a global carbon dioxide monitoring satellite 'TanSat' to understand climate change, hours after it lifted nearly a week-long red alert for the worst smog that engulfed about 40 cities in the country.

The 620-kg satellite TanSat was put into orbit by Long March-2D rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China's Gobi Desert early this morning, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

2. Subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay flight tested in Chandipur


India conducted the flight test of indigenously-designed and developed long range subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha.

The sophisticated missile with a strike range of 1,000 km was test launched from a specially-designed launcher around noon from the launch complex-3 of the ITR, defence sources said.

3. Patel elected unopposed as AIFF president for third time


Praful Patel was re-elected unopposed as the president of All India Football Federation for a four-year term - his third successive - and he promised to run AIFF in a "transparent" manner.

4. HDFC inks MoU for online electricity bill payments in Bihar


Private lender HDFC Bank signed a MoU with Bihar State Power Holding Company to enable residents pay electricity bill online.

The MoU will allow residents of the state to pay electricity bills online in a quick and convenient manner by any debit card, credit card, or netbanking facility, from the comfort of their homes or offices, an HDFC statement said.

The initiative will benefit over 6 crore people in the state, it said.

HDFC Bank has 90 branches and 239 ATMs in Bihar.

Bihar State Power Holding Company generates, distributes and transmits electricity in the state.

As part of agreement, HDFC Bank will provide its electronic cash management platform for the payment of fee through RTGS, NEFT & Electronic Fund Transfer.

"This is a big step in the evolution of the payment mechanism for electricity bill payments in the state and will help fast-track payments," said Sandeep Kumar, Zonal Head - Bihar, HDFC Bank.

Earlier, HDFC Bank tied up with the Registration, Excise and Prohibition department of the state government to enable online payment of land registration fee, stamp duty and other applicable fee related to society, trust registration.

The initiatives are part of the banks strategic focus on customer convenience, access and delight, using technology as an enabler, the statement added.
