1. Pakistan's new Army Chief General Bajwa removes ISI head in major reshuffle
Pakistan's new army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa abruptly removed the head of the country's spy agency ISI and made several other significant changes in the Army's top brass, as part of a major reshuffle.
Gen Bajwa, who took over from Gen Raheel Sharif two weeks ago, however, did not name Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar's successor at the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Lt Gen Akhtar has been appointed President of the National Defence University (NDU), the army said in a statement.
The newly-promoted Lt Gen Bilal Akbar has been appointed Chief of General Staff, it said.
Lt Gen Nazir Butt - presently President of the NDU - has been appointed Corps Commander Peshawar (11Corps), replacing Lt Gen Hidayat-ur-Rehman, who was appointed Inspector-General Training and Evaluation (IGT&E) at General Headquarters (GHQ).
Lt Gen Asim Salim Bajwa, presently heading army's media wing, has been appointed Inspector-General Arms (IG Arms) at GHQ.
2. Gavaskar bestowed with SJAM's Lifetime Achievement Award
Sunil Gavaskar was conferred with the Golden Jubilee Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM).
The award was presented by former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former India player Madhav Apte at the Cricket Club of India. Gavaskar was presented with a citatation and a certificate which has details of all his 34 centuries.
3. Wind music festival in Vizag on Dec 17
Visakhapatnam city will host the world's first ever Wind Music festival on December 17 to entertain enthusiasts, Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.
Addressing a media conference , the minister said the one-day festival is being presented by flautist Naveen Kumar who is known for his contribution to both classical music and film projects especially in collaborations with Oscar winning composer A R Rahman.
Apart from Naveen Kumar, legendary musicians like Ronu Majmundar, Rakesh Chaurasia, A Sravamani, Shashank Subramanyan, Kishore, Raj Sodha, S Ballesh and Tom Thomas among others will perform in the festival.
Srinivasa Rao said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Venkaiah Naiduwill also attend the programme.
Kumar said the programme was being organised to create awareness about wind instruments among youth.
4. Haryana to celebrate Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Divas
Haryana government would celebrate 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Divas' on January 22, next year, by laying the foundation stone for 22 girl’s colleges in the state, infamous for its skewed sex ratio.
"As part of the celebrations, foundation stones of 22 girls colleges will be laid to promote girl education in the state," Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said.
The Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme, which seeks to address gender imbalance and discrimination against the girl child, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Panipat last year.
Infamous for skewed sex ratio, Haryana saw improvement in it with the number of girls crossing 900 mark this year, a development which happened for the first time in 10 years.
Speaking at a function in Gurugram last month, PM Modi also lauded the steps taken by Haryana towards improving the adverse sex ratio and called upon the people of the state to take a pledge in its golden jubilee year to protect the girl child.
Meanwhile, Khattar also said that Jind would be connected with Krishna Circuit being developed in Kurukshetra.
A circular road would be constructed in Jind city at a cost of Rs 110 crore. The road would start from village Ikkas and extend up to Narwana road in west side of Jhanj, Khattar has announced while addressing public meetings at Uklana and Jind.
While speaking at Uklana, the Chief Minister said that development works worth Rs 67 crore had been carried out in the Assembly constituency. He announced development works worth Rs 165 crore for the area.
Speaking at Jind, he announced Rs 20 crore for the construction of a new bus-stand, Rs 25 crore for four-laning of the road from Batakh Chowk to village Niranjan, Rs 10 crore for sewerage, and Rs 10 crore for development of villages of the Assembly area.
The Chief Minister said that by December 25, he would complete his visits to all the 90 Assembly constituencies.
