1. Football: Ronaldo wins fourth Ballon d'Or crown 



Cristiano Ronaldo was named winner of the Ballon d'Or for the fourth time, organisers France Football said, capping a terrific year for the Real Madrid star. 

The 31-year-old Portuguese, who won the Champions League with Real and European Championships with Portugal in recent months, inherits the title of the best player in the world from his long-time Barcelona rival Lionel Messi. 

2. "La La Land" leads Golden Globe nominations 



'La La Land', directed by Damien Chazelles has won the maximum number of nominations i.e Seven nominations at the 74th Golden Globe Awards while India-Australia set drama 'Lion' bagged four nods, including the best supporting actor for Dev Patel. 

3. Pankaj Advani wins World Billiards Championships title 



Ace Indian cueist Pankaj Advani won his 11th World Billiards (150-Up format) Championships title by beating Peter Gilchrist of Singapore in the summit clash. 

4. India ranks 4th most vacation deprived country globally: Report 



India has been ranked as the fourth most vacation deprived country globally, as 63 per cent take fewer days of the vacations that they get, according to a report. 

"After Spain (68 per cent), UAE (68 per cent), Malaysia (67 per cent) and South Korea (64 per cent), India is ranked as the fourth most vacation deprived country globally," according to Expedia Vacation Deprivation report 2016. 

The report revealed that 40 per cent Indians don’t use all vacation days as work schedule does not allow for vacation or don’t have enough staff to cover and 32 per cent are not able to take vacation days due to personal schedule. 

"Vacations play a critical role in creating work-life balance as it re-energises people to be more focused at work (95 per cent of Indians agree in the survey)," Expedia, India, Marketing Head Manmeet Ahluwalia said. 

The report was conducted on behalf of Expedia by Northstar, a globally integrated strategic insights consulting firm online from September 12-29, 2016, across North America, Europe, South America, and Asia Pacific. 

5. Priyanka Chopra Appointed As UNICEF's Global Goodwill Ambassador 



Actress Priyanka Chopra, appointed as UNICEF's newest global Goodwill Ambassador, urged people from across nations to become the 'collective voice' of oppressed children in the world and join forces to leave a better future for the coming generations. 

Footballer David Beckham and 12-year-old British actress Millie Bobby Brown announced Chopra's appointment as UNICEF's newest global Goodwill Ambassador at a star-studded celebration here on Monday night to commemorate 70 years of the world body's children's agency. 

6. 2 Indians in US Richest Entrepreneurs under 40 list: Forbes 



Two Indian-origin men have figured in Forbes magazine’s second annual list of wealthiest entrepreneurs under the age of 40 which is topped by Facebook founder Mark Zuckeberg. 

Vivek Ramaswamy, a successful biotech entrepreneur has been ranked 24th on Americas Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 2016 list with a networth of 600 million dollars and Apoorva Mehta stands at 31st spot with a 360 million dollars networth. 

Ramaswamy, 31, a Harvard University and Yale School of Management alumnus, continues to make waves in the biotech business with his deals and drug development plans, Forbes said. 

He was behind the biggest biotechnology initial public offering of 2016, Myovant Sciences, which raised USD 218 million listing its shares on NASDAQ in October, it said. 

Last year, Ramaswamy pulled off the biggest IPO in the US biotech history by listing shares of Axovant, a company that is trying to develop a new Alzheimers drug. 

He runs Roivant Sciences, a biotech holding company with an innovative financial strategy to develop drugs, often by purchasing drugs that have been forgotten or abandoned by the pharmaceutical industry. 

Forbes called Mehta one of Silicon Valley’s youngest immigrant success stories.
