1. Britain’s oldest man dies at 108



John Mansfield a.k.a. survived two world wars and saw historic events like the April 1912 sinking of Titanic. 

Britain’s oldest man, who survived two world wars and saw historic events like the sinking of Titanic, has died at the age of 108, a media report said.

John Mansfield, fondly known as Jack, was just 16 days away from his 109th birthday when he died in Derbyshire County in England. 

Jack, who was born in 1907, passed away peacefully in his sleep just six weeks after breaking the record of Britain’s oldest man, Metro.co.ukreported. He has lived through 19 Prime Ministers, five monarchs and survived two world wars. 

Historic events in his life 

Jack also worked through the Great Depression and saw historic events such as man’s first journey into space and the sinking of Titanic. 

2. Hillary Clinton honours Katy Perry at UNICEF Gala



Hillary Clinton honoured singer Katy Perry with an Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award at UNICEF Gala. 

Clinton, 69, made a surprise appearance at UNICEF's Annual Snowflake Ball to give the award to Perry, who was an outspoken supporter of her during US presidential campaign, reported AceShowbiz.

3. Norwegian Carlsen wins third World Chess Championship



Norwegian Magnus Carlsen extended his dominance over the chess world by winning the World Chess Championship for the third consecutive time, beating his Russian challenger Sergei Karyakin in a tiebreaker. 

4. R K Dutta appointed Special Secretary Home Ministry



Senior IPS officer Rupak Kumar Dutta, Special Director in CBI, was appointed as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in Home Ministry against a newly-created post.

5. Government approves inclusion of 15 new castes in Central OBC list



The Government approved the inclusion of 15 new castes and modification in 13 other castes in the Central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal.

6. India ranked 102nd on enabling cross border trade: WEF



India has improved its ranking by four places to 102nd position among 136 economies in terms of enabling cross border trade, with Singapore leading the list, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said . 

Among the BRICS nations, India, China and South Africa have improved their ranking from the previous edition. While India's position has jumped four slots to 102, that of South Africa has improved three places to 55 while that of China stood at 61 compared with the previous ranking of 63. Brazil's ranking has slipped to 110 from the earlier 97 while that of Russia dropped to 111 from the 105th position. The Global Enabling Trade Report 2016 -- published by WEF and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation -- assesses the performance of 136 economies by way of Enabling Trade Index (ETI).
