1. Renowned sitar player Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan dead

Renowned sitar player Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan died. He was 88.

Conferred with the Padmashri, Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi awards, Khan hailed from the Indore Gharana and is credited for innovating the unique music style of 'Jafferkhani Baaj'.

Born in 1929 in Jawra, Madhya Pradesh, during his music career spanning over six decades, Khan played the sitar for various Bollywood films, including "Mughal-E-Azam", "Kohinoor", "Goonj Uthi Shehnai" and "Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje", among many others.

2. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's highs and lows as India's limited-overs captain

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as India's limited-overs captain but will still be available for selection, the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The 35-year-old Dhoni is considered one of India's most successful captains. Dhoni captained India in 199 ODIs and 72 T20Is and led the country to their second ODI World Cup in 2011 and into the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup.

3. Sahara Group extends Hockey India sponsorship till 2021

In what can be termed as a major boost to Indian hockey, the Sahara Group has renewed its association with Hockey India by signing a sponsorship deal which will run till 2021. 

4. Indo-American Rajiv Shah to be named Rockefeller Foundation President 

Former USAID head Rajiv J Shah is set to be named as president of the Rockefeller Foundation, one of America's largest and most influential philanthropies, becoming the youngest person and the first Indian-American to lead the group. 

A report in the New York Times said the Rockefeller Foundation will today name Shah to succeed Judith Rodin, who has been president for 12 years. 

The selection will make Shah the youngest person and the first Indian-American to lead the Rockefeller Foundation, which was founded in 1913 by the oil tycoon John D Rockefeller. 

Shah was USAID head under the Obama administration from 2009 to 2015. He had previously served as Undersecretary and Chief Scientist in the US Department of Agriculture, where he created the National Institute for Food and Agriculture.
