1. Ferry Craft Manohar inducted into Commodore of Yard division

Ferry Craft Manohar was inducted into assets of the Commodore of the Yard division by Vice Admiral Ravneet Singh, NM, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command.

The induction ceremony was conducted at Naval Dockyard Mumbai yesterday, an official release issued this evening said.

Ferry Craft Manohar, which can carry 250 personnel, has been built by M/s Shalimar Works Ltd and overseen by Warship Overseeing Team (Kolkata).

It is equipped with modern state of equipment and machinery as well as modern seating system. The ferry has also been provided with a latest navigation equipment.

2. Randeep Hooda made brand ambassador of fire services in India

The Standing Fire Advisory Council (SFAC), a Central government body, has roped in Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda as the brand ambassador of fire services in India.

3. SBI Research pegs FY17 GDP down to 6.7%

Even as the Central Statistics Office (CSO) revised downwards the GDP growth estimate for the current financial year to 7.1 per cent, SBI Research pegged it further down at 6.7 per cent, citing the note-ban impact on consumption and therefore production.

4. Barai, Shivangi to receive Pravasi Bharatiya Samaan Award

Indian-Americans Dr Bharat Barai and Dr Sampat Shivangi have been selected for the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, the highest civilian award given to overseas Indians and people of Indian origin.

They are scheduled to receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee in Bengaluru on January 9, the last day of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conclave. People of Indian origin from across the world have gathered for the three-day event.

The list of the prestigious award has not been officially announced yet, but its recipients were informed by the Indian Government last week.

Based in Chicago, Dr Barai was instrumental in grand success of the historic Madison Square Garden event of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York in September 2014.

Dr Shivangi, who is based in Mississippi, has played a key role in improving India-US relationship through lawmakers.

So far 28 overseas Indians from the US have received the award. Prominent among them being Rajat Gupta, Kalpana Chawla (posthumously), Shashi Tharoor (when he worked at the UN in New York), Sam Pitroda, Prof Jagdish Bhagwati and Dr Rajiv Shah.
