1. China launches satellite to monitor global carbon emissions

China launched a global carbon dioxide monitoring satellite 'TanSat' to understand climate change, hours after it lifted nearly a week-long red alert for the worst smog that engulfed about 40 cities in the country.

The 620-kg satellite TanSat was put into orbit by Long March-2D rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China's Gobi Desert early this morning, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

2. Subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay flight tested in Chandipur

India conducted the flight test of indigenously-designed and developed long range subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha.

The sophisticated missile with a strike range of 1,000 km was test launched from a specially-designed launcher around noon from the launch complex-3 of the ITR, defence sources said.

3. Patel elected unopposed as AIFF president for third time

Praful Patel was re-elected unopposed as the president of All India Football Federation for a four-year term - his third successive - and he promised to run AIFF in a "transparent" manner.

4. HDFC inks MoU for online electricity bill payments in Bihar

Private lender HDFC Bank signed a MoU with Bihar State Power Holding Company to enable residents pay electricity bill online.

The MoU will allow residents of the state to pay electricity bills online in a quick and convenient manner by any debit card, credit card, or netbanking facility, from the comfort of their homes or offices, an HDFC statement said.

The initiative will benefit over 6 crore people in the state, it said.

HDFC Bank has 90 branches and 239 ATMs in Bihar.

Bihar State Power Holding Company generates, distributes and transmits electricity in the state.

As part of agreement, HDFC Bank will provide its electronic cash management platform for the payment of fee through RTGS, NEFT & Electronic Fund Transfer.

"This is a big step in the evolution of the payment mechanism for electricity bill payments in the state and will help fast-track payments," said Sandeep Kumar, Zonal Head - Bihar, HDFC Bank.

Earlier, HDFC Bank tied up with the Registration, Excise and Prohibition department of the state government to enable online payment of land registration fee, stamp duty and other applicable fee related to society, trust registration.

The initiatives are part of the banks strategic focus on customer convenience, access and delight, using technology as an enabler, the statement added.

1. वैश्विक कार्बन उत्सर्जन की निगरानी के लिए चीन ने प्रक्षेपित किया उपग्रह

चीन ने जलवायु परिवर्तन को समझने के लिए एक वैश्विक कार्बन डाइ ऑक्साइड निरीक्षण उपग्रह 'टैनसैट' प्रक्षेपित किया। 

इससे कुछ घंटे पहले ही चीन ने देश के लगभग 40 शहरों में फैले स्मॉग के कारण सप्ताह भर तक लगाए गए रेड अलर्ट को हटाया था।

टैनसैट नामक 620 किलोग्राम के उपग्रह को चीन के गोबी मरूस्थल स्थित जियुक्वान उपग्रह प्रक्षेपण केंद्र से लॉन्ग मार्च-2डी रॉकेट की मदद से कक्षा में पहुंचाया गया।

2. चांदीपुर में सबसोनिक क्रूज मिसाइल ‘निर्भय’ का परीक्षण

भारत ने अपने देश में निर्मित और विकसित लंबी दूरी की क्षमता वाली सबसोनिक क्रूज मिसाइल ‘निर्भय’ का ओड़िशा में चांदीपुर के इंटीग्रेटेड टेस्ट रेंज (आईटीआर) से परीक्षण किया।

रक्षा सूत्रों ने बताया कि एक हजार किलोमीटर की दूरी तक मारक क्षमता वाली अत्याधुनिक मिसाइल को एक विशेष रूप से डिजाइन किये गये प्रक्षेपक से दोपहर आईटीआर के परिसर संख्या तीन से प्रक्षेपित किया गया।

3. पटेल तीसरी बार निर्विरोध एआईएफएफ अध्यक्ष चुने गये

प्रफुल्ल पटेल चार साल के लिये अखिल भारतीय फुटबाल महासंघ :एआईएफएफ: के निर्विरोध अध्यक्ष चुने गये, जो उनका लगातार तीसरा कार्यकाल है। उन्होंने एफआईएफएफ को पारदर्शी तरीके से चलाने का वादा किया।

4. एचडीएफसी बैंक ने बिहार में ऑनलाइन बिजली बिल भुगतान के लिये समझौता किया

निजी क्षेत्र के एचडीएफसी बैंक ने बिहार में बिजली बिलों का ऑनलाइन भुगतान करने के लिये बिहार राज्य विद्युत होल्डिंग कंपनी के साथ सहमति ज्ञापन समझौता किया है।

एचडीएफसी बैंक के यहां जारी वक्तव्य में यह जानकारी देते हुये कहा गया है कि राज्य के नागरिक अपने बिजली बिलों का भुगतान किसी भी डेबिट, क्रेडिट कार्ड अथवा किसी भी नेटबैंकिंग सुविधा के जरिये अपने घर अथवा कार्यालय से सुविधा के अनुसार ऑनलाइन भुगतान कर सकेंगे।

एचडीएफसी बैंक की इस पहल से राज्य के छह करोड़ से अधिक लोगों का फायदा मिलेगा। बैंक की बिहार में 90 शाखायें और 239 एटीएम हैं।

बिहार राज्य विद्युत हाल्डिंग कंपनी राज्य में बिजली का उत्पादन, वितरण और पारेषण करती है।

समझौते के तहत आरटीजीएस, नेफ्ट और इलेक्ट्रानिक फंड ट्रांसफर के जरिये भुगतान के लिये एचडीएफसी बैंक अपने इलेक्ट्रॉनिक नकद प्रबंधन प्लेटफार्म को उपलब्ध करायेगा।

1. Daman and Diu becomes first cashless region in the country

The tiny Union Territory along the Arabian Sea coast, Daman and Diu, has become the first cashless region of the country. 

Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has commended the UT administration for taking the initiative to make Daman and Diu as the first cashless region of the country. 

During a recent visit to the Union Territory, Ahir lauded the painstaking efforts of the UT administration in successfully making Daman and Diu a cashless region. 

At least 190 teams of trained volunteers visited over 25,000 households spread across the UT to educate their members about the benefits of cashless transactions, an official statement said. 

The administration has introduced free Wi-fi services in the Union Territory recently and 3,500 GB Data was used by over 32,000 tourists and local people during the last 45 days. 

This initiative was appreciated by Ahir as it will help in promoting the government’s initiative of Digital India and e-transactions. 

Ahir reviewed the developmental projects in Daman and Diu and also inaugurated the coastal police station at Kadaiya. 

2. India, Kyrgyzstan sign six agreements

India and Kyrgyzstan signed six agreements, including on tourism, agriculture and youth affairs, following delegation-level talks led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Sharshenovich Atambayev.

3. India at 3rd place in USGBC's list of top 10 nations for LEED

India remained at the third position in the USGBC's annual ranking of the top 10 countries for LEED, which is a green building rating system. 

China ranked first with 34.62 million GSM, followed by Canada with 34.39 million GSM. 

Conducted in 70 countries, the report found that emerging economies will continue to be engines of green growth, with development varying from two fold to six fold over current green building levels. 

4. Mary Kom, Vikas get awards at AIBA 70th anniversary gala

The legendary M C Mary Kom and former Asian Games gold-medallist Vikas Krishan shone bright at the International Boxing Associations 70th anniversary gala in Montreux, Switzerland, picking up different awards for their performances. 

While five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist Mary Kom was presented the AIBA Legends award for her trailblazing boxing career, Vikas was handed the APB (AIBA Pro Boxing) Best Boxer trophy.

1. दमन व दीव देश का पहला नकदीरहित क्षेत्र बना

केंद्र शासित प्रदेश दमन व द्वीव देश का पहला नकदीरहित क्षेत्र बन गया है।

अरब सागर में स्थित इस छोटे से दीव में 25,000 से अधिक परिवार रहते हैं जिन्हें नकदीरहित लेनदेन के फायदों के बारे में बताया व समझाया गया है।

केंद्रीय गृह राज्यमंत्री हंसराज गंगाराम अहिर ने दमन व दीव को देश का पहला नकदीरहित क्षेत्र बनाने के लिए प्रशासन के प्रयासों की सराहना की है।

प्रशासन ने यहां वाई-फाई सेवा शुरू की और बीते 45 दिनों में 32,000 से अधिक पर्यटकों ने 3500 जीबी डेटा का इस्तेमाल किया है।

सरकारी बयान के अनुसार अहिर ने दमन व दीव में विकास परियोजनाओं की समीक्षा की और कडैया में तटीय पुलिस थाने का उद्घाटन किया।

2. भारत, किर्गिस्तान ने छह समझौते किये, निवेश संधि को अंतिम रूप दिया

भारत और किर्गिस्तान ने अपने संबंधों को नयी गति प्रदान करते हुए द्विपक्षीय निवेश समझौतों के विविध आयामों को अंतिम रूप देने के साथ विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में सहयोग संबंधी छह अन्य समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किया, साथ ही आतंकवाद, चरमपंथ और कट्टरपंथ की चुनौतियों से निपटने में करीबी सहयोग का संकल्प व्यक्त किया ।

3. अमेरिकी ग्रीन बिल्डिंग काउंसिल की 10 देशों की सूची में भारत तीसरे स्थान पर 

भारत अमेरिकी ग्रीन बिल्डिंग काउंसिल (यूएसजीबीसी) की शीर्ष 10 देशों की सूची में तीसरे स्थान पर है। यह सूची एलईईडी के आधार पर तैयार की गयी है जो हरित इमारत रेटिंग प्रणाली है।

इस साल भारत 1.59 करोड़ सकल वर्ग मीटर (जीएसएम) एलईईडी प्रमाणिक स्थान के साथ तीसरे स्थान पर बना हुआ है। वहीं चीन 3.46 करोड़ जीएसएम के साथ पहले तथा कनाडा 3.44 करोड़ जीएसएम के साथ दूसरे स्थान पर है।

कुल 70 देशों में किये गये अध्ययन के आधार पर रिपोर्ट में पाया गया है कि उभरती अर्थव्यवस्थाएं हरित वृद्धि के लिये इंजन बनी रहेंगी।

4. मेरीकाम, विकास को एआईबीए पुरस्कार

एम सी मेरीकाम और पूर्व एशियाई खेल स्वर्ण पदक विजेता विकास कृष्णन को अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुक्केबाजी संघ के 70 साल पूरे होने के मौके पर स्विटजरलैंड में आयोजित समारोह में अलग अलग पुरस्कारों से नवाजा गया ।

पांच बार की विश्व चैम्पियन और ओलंपिक कांस्य पदक विजेता मेरीकाम को एआईबीए लीजैंड्स पुरस्कार मिला जबकि विकास को एपीबी : एआईबीए प्रो मुक्केबाजी : सर्वश्रेष्ठ मुक्केबाज का पुरस्कार दिया गया ।

5. भारत दुनिया की पांचवी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था बना

फॉर्ब्‍स मैगजीन द्वारा जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार भारत दुनिया की पांचवी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था बन गया. भारत को यहब उपलब्धि 150 साल में पहली बार प्राप्त हुई है. अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था के आकार के मामले में ब्रिटेन भी अब भारत से पीछे है. भारत अमेरिका, चीन, जापान व जर्मनी के बाद पांचवीं सबसे बड़ी जीडीपी बन गया है.

पिछले 25 साल में भारत की तेज इकॉनॉमिक ग्रॉथ और वर्ष भर में पाउंड के मूल्‍य में आई कमी के कारण यह परिवर्तन हुआ है. इसका कारण ब्रिटेन के यूरोपियन यूनियन से अलग होने और भारत की तेज विकास दर को माना जा रहा है. 

फॉर्ब्‍स मैगजीन की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत द्वारा 2020 तक ब्रिटेन की जीडीपी को पार करने का अनुमान था. पिछले 12 महीने में पाउंड के मूल्‍य में लगभग 20 प्रतिशत की कमी ने यह 2016 में कर दिया.

ब्रिटेन की 1.87 ट्रिलियन पाउंड की जीडीपी एक डॉलर के मुकाबले 0.81 पाउंड की एक्‍सचेंज रेट पर 2.29 ट्रिलियन डॉलर में बदलती है. 

भारत की 153 ट्रिलियन रुपये की जीडीपी एक डॉलर के मुकाबले 66.6 रुपये से बदलने पर 2.30 ट्रिलियन डॉलर होती है. 

इकॉनॉमिक थिंक टैंक सेंटर फॉर इकॉनॉमिक्‍स एंड बिजनेस रिसर्च (सीईबीआर) को दिसंबर 2011 में पूर्वानुमान था कि भारत 2020 में दुनिया की पांचवीं सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था बन जाएगा.

फॉर्ब्‍स की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार ब्रिटेन और भारत के मध्य इस अंतर के और बढ़ने की संभावना व्यक्त की गयी है. भारत 6-8 प्रतिशत सालाना की दर से प्रगति शील है, वहीं ब्रिटेन की विकास दर 2020 तक 1-2 प्रतिशत के बीच रहने का अनुमान है. 

आठ अक्‍टूबर 2016 को अंतरराष्‍ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष ने भी इस वित्‍तीय वर्ष के अंत तक ब्रिटेन के भारत से पीछे रह जाने की संभावना व्यक्त की थी.

1. EPFO rate at 4-year low of 8.65 per cent

Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has lowered the interest rate Employee Provident Fund (EPF) deposits to 8.65 per cent in 2016-17 from 8.8 per cent. This is the lowest rate of interest in four years.

As per general practice, the decision of the CBT, the governing body chaired by the Labour Minister that manages the fund, will need the Finance Ministry’s approval.

“Taking into account relevant factors, the central board decided to recommend 8.65 per cent interest to its subscribers for the year 2016-17,” the retirement fund body said in a statement after its 215th meeting held in Bengaluru.

2. Noted environmentalist Anupam Mishra passes away at 68

Noted journalist, environmentalist, and water conservationist Anupam Mishra passed away. He was 68. 

He was battling prostrate cancer for the last one year.

Mishra had been awarded the 1996 Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar (IGPP) award instituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.

3. Priyanka Chopra named Assam tourism brand ambassador

After being turned down by cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar, Assam government said Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra would be the brand ambassador of the state’s tourism for two years.

4. Karun Nair becomes second Indian to score 300 in Tests

Karnataka batsman Karun Nair entered an exclusive club, joining Virender Sehwag as the second Indian to score a triple-century in Tests. Nair, in his third Test, finished not out on 303 as India declared with their highest score in Tests, a massive 759/7, at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

5. National Commission for Protection of Child Rights gets SKOCH Awards for POCSO e-Box

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) of Ministry of Women and Child Development has been conferred the Skoch Silver and Skoch Order-of Merit award. The award was received by NCPCR Chairperson Smt. Stuti Kacker from Sh. Ajay Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & IT at an event attended by representatives of Technology Companies, Govt. Departments, Public Sector Undertaking, and Research Organisations in New Delhi last week. The two awards were received by NCPCR for applying technology to develop an electronic drop box, POCSO e-Box for registering complaints on Child Sexual Abuse. Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Kacker said that everybody should stand up against Child Sexual Abuse, a heinous crime that leaves permanent scars on the psyche of the child.

The competition saw more than 3000 participants and NCPCR’s project, POCSO e-box was considered among the top 30 entries.

POCSO e-box is a unique endeavour by NCPCR for receiving online complaint of Child Sexual Abuse directly from the victim. The system maintains confidentiality of the victim/ complainant. Through a well-defined procedure complaints are directly followed up by a team which counsels the victim, providing further guidance for required legal action. Through a short animation film embedded in the e-box it assures the victim not to feel bad, helpless or confused as it’s not her fault. With the e-box, it is easy to register complaint through a step-by-step guided process.

According to a study, conducted by Ministry of Women & Child Development during 2007, about 53% of children surveyed, reported having faced one or the other form of sexual abuse in their lifetime. It has been found that in most cases, the offender is a family member/near relative or an acquaintance. The child victim in such cases generally does not report such incidences.

1. भविष्य निधि पर 2016-17 के लिये 8.65 प्रतिशत की ब्याज दर, चार साल में सबसे कम

कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि संगठन (ईपीएफओ) ने भविष्य निधि जमाओं (ईपीएफ) पर चालू वित्त वर्ष के लिये ब्याज दर को घटाकर 8.65 प्रतिशत कर दिया। ईपीएफ पर चार साल में यह सबसे कम ब्याज दर है।

ईपीएफओ ने नोटबंदी के बाद बैंक जमाओं में वृद्धि तथा बचत पर घटती दरों के मद्देनजर यह फैसला किया है।

ईपीएफओ ने वित्त वर्ष 2015-16 के लिए अपने चार करोड़ अंशधारकों को 8.8 प्रतिशत की दर से सालाना ब्याज दिया था। इससे पहले 2013-14 व 2014-15 में यह 8.75 प्रतिशत व 2012-13 में 8.5 प्रतिशत थी।

2. विख्यात पर्यावरणविद् अनुपम मिश्र का निधन

विख्यात पर्यावरणविद् और जल संरक्षणवादी अनुपम मिश्र का निधन हो गया। वह 68 वर्ष के थे।

पिछले एक साल से वह कैंसर की बीमारी से पीड़ित थे और 10 दिसंबर से दिल्ली के एम्स अस्पताल में भर्ती थे।

मिश्र ‘आज भी खरे हैं तालाब’ और ‘राजस्थान की रजत बूंदे’ जैसी किताबें के लेखक हैं, उन्हें पर्यावरण के क्षेत्र में किए गए काम के लिए इंदिरा गांधी पर्यावरण पुरस्कार दिया गया।

3. प्रियंका चोपड़ा असम की ब्रांड एबेंसडर बनीं

क्रिक्रेटर सचिन तेंदुलकर द्वारा पेशकश अस्वीकार किये जाने के बाद असम सरकार ने कहा कि बॉलीवुड अभिनेत्री प्रियंका चोपड़ा दो सालों के लिए राज्य के पर्यटन की ब्रांड एबेंसडर होंगी।

4. करुण नायर का तिहरा शतक, भारत का रिकॉर्ड स्कोर

करुण नायर ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट में अपने पहले शतक को तिहरे शतक में बदलकर 19 दिसंबर को यहां नाबाद 303 रन की रिकॉर्ड पारी खेली जिससे भारत ने अपना अब तक का सर्वोच्च स्कोर बनाकर इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ पांचवें और अंतिम टेस्ट मैच में अपनी स्थिति मजबूत कर ली। राजस्थान में जन्में और कर्नाटक की तरफ से खेलने वाले 25 वर्षीय नायर ने रिकॉर्डों से भरी अपनी पारी में 381 गेंदें खेली तथा 32 चौके और चार छक्के लगाये। वह वीरेंद्र सहवाग के बाद टेस्ट मैचों में तिहरा शतक जड़ने वाले दूसरे भारतीय बल्लेबाज हैं। सहवाग ने दो तिहरे शतक (319 और 309) लगाये हैं। नायर का तिहरा शतक पूरा होते ही कप्तान विराट कोहली ने सात विकेट पर 759 रन के स्कोर पर पारी समाप्त घोषित कर दी जो भारत का टेस्ट मैचों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ स्कोर भी है। 

5. राष्‍ट्रीय बाल अधिकार संरक्षण आयोग पोस्‍को ई-बॉक्‍स के लिए पुरस्‍कार से सम्‍मानित 

महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्रालय के अंतर्गत राष्‍ट्रीय बाल अधिकार संरक्षण आयोग (एनसीपीसीआर) को पोस्‍को ई-बॉक्‍स के लिए स्‍काच सिल्‍वर और स्‍काच आर्डर ऑफ मैरिट पुरस्‍कार से सम्‍मानित किया गया है। यह पुरस्‍कार पिछले सप्‍ताह नई दिल्‍ली में आयोजित कार्यक्रम में इलेक्‍ट्रॉनिक्‍स और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय में अपर सचिव श्री अजय कुमार ने एनसीपीसीआर की अध्‍यक्ष श्रीमती स्‍तुति कक्‍कड़ को प्रदान किया। कार्यक्रम में टेक्‍नॉलोजी कंपनियों, सरकारी विभागों, सार्वजनिक क्षेत्रों के उपक्रमों और अनुसंधान संगठनों ने भाग लिया। एनसीपीसीआर को यह पुरस्‍कार बाल यौन शोषण की शिकायत पंजीकृत करने के लिए इलेक्‍ट्रानिक ड्राप बॉक्‍स पोस्‍को ई-बॉक्‍स विकसित करने में प्रौद्योगिकी के उपयोग करने हेतु प्रदान किया गया है। इस अवसर पर अपने संबोधन में श्रीमती कक्‍कड़ ने कहा कि बच्‍चों के मन में हमेशा के लिए बुरा भाव छोड़ने वाले घिनोने बाल यौन शोषण के खिलाफ हर किसी को खड़ा होना चाहिए।

प्रतियोगिता में तीन हजार से अधिक प्रविष्टियां शामिल हुई और एनसीपीसीआर की परियोजना पोस्‍को ई-बॉक्‍स को 30 सर्वोच्‍च प्रविष्टियों में से प्रथम चुना गया।

पोस्‍को ई-बॉक्‍स, एनसीपीसीआर द्वारा बाल यौन शोषण के शिकार बच्‍चों से ऑनलाइन शिकायत प्राप्‍त करने का एक अनूठा प्रयास है। यह प्रणाली शिकायतकर्ता की गोपनीयता बरकरार रखती है। एक निर्धारित प्रक्रिया के तहत शिकायत को एक दल द्वारा देखा जाता है जो यौन शोषण के शिकार बच्‍चे को परामर्श प्रदान करने के साथ कानूनी प्रक्रिया पालन करने संबंधी दिशा-निर्देश प्रदान करता है। ई-बॉक्‍स में एक लघु एनीमेशन फिल्‍मद्वारा यौन शोषण के शिकार बच्‍चों को सहायताहीन या दिग्‍भ्रमित और बुरा ना समझने जैसा आश्‍वासन दिया जाता है। ई-बॉक्‍स के द्वारा चरणबद्ध रूप से आसानी से शिकायत दर्ज की जा सकती है।

महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्रालय द्वारा वर्ष 2007 में किए गए अध्‍ययन के अनुसार सर्वे किए गए बच्‍चों में से 53 प्रतिशत बच्‍चों ने अपने जीवनकाल में एक या अधिक बाल यौन शोषण का सामना किया था। अधिकतर मामलों में दोषी कोई पारिवारिक सदस्‍य/निकट का रिश्‍तेदार या जानने वाला व्‍यक्ति था। इस प्रकार के मामलों में सामान्‍य तौर पर बाल यौन शोषण के शिकार बच्‍चे ऐसी घटनाओं को दर्ज नहीं कराते।

1. Miss Puerto Rico lands Miss World 2016 crown

Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico has been crowned Miss World 2016, edging out runners-up from the Dominican Republic and Indonesia, and beauties from around the globe. 

Del Valle, 19, is a brown-eyed brunette student who speaks Spanish, English and French, and hopes to get into the entertainment industry.

Crowned by Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna of Spain, del Valle yesterday called it an "honor and a great responsibility" to represent her Caribbean homeland. 

First runner-up was Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez of the Dominican Republic, followed by Miss World Indonesia Natasha Mannuela. 

Contestants from Kenya and Catriona Gray of the Philippines also were in the final five. 

2. India beat Belgium to win Junior Hockey World Cup after 15 yrs

India created history by winning the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup after a gap of 15 long years with a clinical 2-1 victory against Belgium in the final.

The hosts scored two beautifully crafted field goals in the first half through Gurjant Singh (8th minute) and Simranjeet Singh (22nd) while controlling the proceedings for better part of the game to emerge as deserving winners.

The team coached by Harendra Singh in association with senior team's chief coach Roelant Oltmans accomplished what the 'Class of 2001' comprising of some of the best of their times like Gagan Ajit Singh, Yugraj Singh achieved then. 

Having finished a lowly 13th in the last edition of the tournament in New Delhi, it was a mission for the hosts to rewrite history and the hosts duly achieved that riding on its brilliant performance in the 11th edition of the event. 

It turned out to be a historic day for India as they reclaimed the title for the second time in the history of the tournament. India had last won the tournament way back in 2001 in Hobart.

3. Pakistan third most prolific executioner

For the second year in a row, Pakistan has retained its "notorious status" of being the "third most prolific executioner" in the world, executing 419 people in two years, a rights group Amnesty International said.

According to Amnesty International, at least 1,634 people were executed in 25 countries in 2015.

Out of these, most of the executions took place in China, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the USA in that order, it said.

4. Lt. Gen Bipin Rawat to be next Indian Army chief; B.S Dhanoa to be IAF chief

Lieutenant general Bipin Rawat will be the new chief of Army Staff while Air Marshal B.S. Dhanoa will be the new chief of Air Staff, Ministry of Defence confirmed. “Government has decided to appoint Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, vice chief of army staff, as the next chief of army staff with effect from afternoon of December 31,” the Defence Ministry said.

5. India, Tajikistan sign four agreements

India and Tajikistan signed four agreements, including one on exchange of financial intelligence, following delegation-level talks headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
