1. WWF India signs pact to provide infra support to field staff

On Earth Day, WWF India and a global technology company signed an agreement which aims at providing infrastructure support to frontline forest guards and field staff monitoring various wildlife species, including tiger, elephants and rhinos.

WWF-India and Ricoh India signed the 'Project Nature Watch' partnership on the occasion of Earth Day 2016," a WWF India statement said. The project aims at providing need-based infrastructure support to frontline and field staff working in the forest and marine areas respectively, for monitoring species such as the red panda, snow leopard, tiger, elephant, rhino, Olive Ridley turtle and other threatened fish diversity, coral reefs, cetaceans and marine mammals.

2. Google most influential brand in India, Flipkart at 7th slot
It is the foreign brands like Google and Facebook that rank on top in terms of their influence, while domestic ones are placed lower, as per the new list of ten most influential brands in the country.

According to the study by global research firm Ipsos, Google ranks on the top and is followed by Facebook, Gmail, Microsoft and Samsung in the top five — all of which are foreign brands.

While another foreign brand WhatsApp is sixth on the India’s top 10 most influential brands, Flipkart is the top ranked Indian brand at seventh place.

The other two Indian brands on the list – SBI and Airtel- are ninth and tenth, US based Amazon is placed at number eight.

3. India's growth to reach 7.8% in 2016: Nomura

India's GDP growth is likely to recover to 7.8 percent this year due to higher public capex, upcoming pay commission awards and a normal monsoon, says a Nomura report. 

Nomura expect GDP growth to recover to 7.8 per cent in 2016-17 from 7.3 per cent in 2015.

4. Bhupendra Kainthola appointed FTII Director

Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Bhupendra Kainthola was today appointed as Director of Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). 

Kainthola, a 1989 batch IIS officer, has been appointed to the post for three years, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). 

FTII is an autonomous body under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. 

FTII, is the country's premier institute that provides training for acting, film making, video editing, direction and production.

5. Renowned urdu poet Malik Zada Manzoor Ahmed died
Famous Urdu poet Prof. Malik Zada Manzoor Ahmed died after a prolonged illness. He was 91.

Scholar, orator, poet and novelist, he had recited poems at thousands of Mushairas and kavi-sammelans since 1949, in a number of countries other than India, which includes USA, Canada, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, Nepal and Pakistan.

He was the editor of 'Imkaan' (Monthly Urdu literary journal from Lucknow) and former President, 'All India Urdu Rabita Committee'.He was also the former chairman of the UP Urdu Academy.Ahmed also received several awards, including Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy Award for Lifetime Contribution to Urdu Literature, Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy Award for Lifetime Contribution to Urdu Literature, Harivansh Rai Bachchan Award, Sufi Jamal Akhtar Award, Firaq Samman from the Aalami Urdu Conference, New Delhi, Momin Khan Momin Ghazal Award for Lifetime Achievement, Fakhr-e-Urdu Award from the Osmania University Ex-Students' Association of Greater Chicago, Title of Sahitya Saraswat by Hindi Sammelan, Prayag.

6. Swamy, Sidhu, Mary Kom among six nominated to Rajya Sabha

The Centre filled six of the seven vacancies among the dozen nominated members of the Rajya Sabha.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionaries Subramanian Swamy and Navjot Singh Sidhu, journalist Swapan Dasgupta and five-time world amateur boxing champion M C Mary Kom were nominated. Also economist Narendra Jadhav and Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi.

President Pranab Mukherjee, on the recommendation of the government, nominated the six for Rajya Sabha.

7. J S Mathur appointed Panchayati Raj Secretary
Senior IAS officer J S Mathur was appointed as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Panchayatai Raj. 

Mathur, who is presently Special Secretary in Information and Broadcasting Ministry, will taker ove the new charge, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said. 

He has been appointed in place of S M Vijayanand, who was last month sent back to his cadre state -Kerala - before completion of his tenure. 

Mathur is 1982 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.

8. Mahindra Becomes First Indian Company to Join EP100 Campaign

Automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra has become the first Indian company to join a global energy campaign led by an international non-profit group that will work with the world's most influential businesses in setting commitments to double their energy productivity.

By signing up to 'EP100' campaign led by 'The Climate Group', the world’s largest manufacturer of tractors has committed to doubling their energy productivity by 2030, a core requirement for any business signing on to the campaign.

9. Rio Olympics 2016: Salman Khan to be Goodwill Ambassador for Indian contingent
Superstar Salman Khan will represent India in the 2016 Olympics to be held in Rio as he has been nominated as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Indian Contingent.

This is the first time that a Bollywood superstar has been chosen to as a Goodwill Ambassador for the games.

10. Manoj Bajpayee to receive Dadasaheb Phalke award for Aligarh


Actor Manoj Bajpayee will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the Best Actor category (Critics’ Choice) for his performance in Hansal Mehta’s biographical drama, “Aligarh”.

11. Ashok Mago receives distinguished alumni award in US
Padma Shri awardee Indian-American Ashok Mago has received the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award from theUniversity of Texas in the US for his services to the world of trade and industry. 

The award is presented to individuals who are distinguished in their chosen professions or life's work who demonstrate pride in the university, the University of Texas said in a statement. 

Mago is chairman of Mago & Associates Inc, a Dallas-based business and investment consulting firm. He is the founding chairman of the Greater Dallas Indo-American Chamber, now known as the US-IndiaChamber of Commerce, it said. 

He serves on the Board of Regents for the University of North Texas System and on boards for the Primary Care Clinic of North Texas and the Dallas County Community College District Foundation. 

In 2014, Mago was awarded the Padma Shri. 

Mago immigrated to the US in 1974 after getting a bachelor's degree from Delhi University. He received a Master of Business Administration from University of Texas.
