The 2016 G20 Hangzhou summit is the eleventh meeting of G20 Group. It is being held from 4–5 September 2016 in the city of Hangzhou (province of Zhejiang), China. 

It is also the first ever G20 summit to be hosted in China and the second Asian country after 2010 G20 Seoul summit which was hosted by South Korea.

What is the G20?

The Group of Twenty (G20) is an international forum that brings together the world's leading industrialised and emerging economies. The G20, also known as the Group of Twenty, is a forum of 19 countries plus the European Union (EU).

The group accounts for 85 per cent of world GDP and two-thirds of its population.

Much of the important business takes place on the sidelines and in informal meetings.

1. India Post to launch commemorative stamp on Mother Teresa

The Department of Posts will release a commemorative stamp in the city to mark Mother Teresa's canonisation in the Vatican on September 4.

2. Noted Assamese poet Nalini Dhar Bhattacharyya dies at 95

Noted Assamese poet, literary critic and author and winner of the Sahitya Akademi award Nalini dhar Bhattacharyya passed away. He was 95.

3. Guinness World Records declare Majuli as the largest river island

The Guinness World Records declared Assam's Majuli as the largest river island in the world.

The island is located in the Brahmaputra River.

As per the Guinness World Records, the island lost around one-third of its area in the last 30-40 years due to frequent flooding of the river.

About Majuli

• Majuli had a total area of 1250 square kilometres at the beginning of the 20th century. However, it had lost significantly to erosion.

• It had an area of only 352 square kilometres in 2014.

• The island is formed by River Brahmaputra in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri River in the north.

• The island is accessible by ferries from the city of Jorhat.

• It was formed due to course changes by the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries, mainly the Lohit.

• It is the abode of the Assamese neo-Vaisnavite culture. 

4. Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov dies

Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov died. He was 78.

5. India, Vietnam sign 12 agreements

India and Vietnam signed 12 agreements in a wide range of areas covering defence, IT, space, double taxation and sharing white shipping information, signalling a strong upward push in their strategic ties.

The agreements were signed by officials of the two sides in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

डाक विभाग चार सितंबर को वेटिकन में मदर टेरेसा को संत की उपाधि दिए जाने के अवसर पर एक स्मृति डाक टिकट जारी करेगा।

2. मशहूर असमी कवि नलिनीधर भट्टाचार्य का निधन

जानेमाने असमी कवि और साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार विजेता नलिनीधर भट्टाचार्य का निधन हो गया। वह 95 साल के थे।

3. माजुली सबसे बड़े नदी द्वीप के रूप में गिनीज वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड्स में शामिल

गिनीज वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड्स ने असम के माजुली को विश्व के सबसे बड़े नदी द्वीप के रूप में दर्ज किया.

यह द्वीप ब्रहमपुत्र नदी में स्थित है.

गिनीज वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड्स के अनुसार, यह द्वीप पिछले 30-40 वर्षों में बाढ़ के कारण लगभग एक तिहाई भू-भाग खो चुका है.

माजुली

• इसका कुल क्षेत्रफल लगभग 1250 वर्ग किलोमीटर था. यह परिधि इसके शुरुआती समयकाल में थी. 

• वर्ष 2014 में यह क्षेत्रफल केवल 352 वर्ग किलोमीटर रह गया.

• इस द्वीप का निर्माण ब्रहमपुत्र नदी के दक्षिण में हुआ तथा इसके उत्तर में खेरकुटिया नदी द्वारा इसका निर्माण हुआ.

• इस द्वीप तक जोरहाट से नाव द्वारा पहुंचा जा सकता है.

• इसका निर्माण ब्रहमपुत्र नदी द्वारा रुख मोड़ने से हुआ.

4. उज्‍बेकिस्‍तान के राष्‍ट्रपति इस्‍लाम करिेमोव का निधन

उजबेकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति इस्लाम करिमोव का निधन हो गया। वह 78 वर्ष के थे।

5. भारत और वियतनाम ने 12 समझौतों पर किए हस्ताक्षर 

भारत और वियतनाम ने अपने सामरिक संबंधों को और मजबूत बनाने का संकेत देते हुए रक्षा, आईटी, अंतरिक्ष, दोहरे कराधान से बचाव और मालवाहक पोतों संबंधी वाणिज्यिक नौवहन सूचना साझा करने समेत विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से जुड़े 12 समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और वियतनाम में उनके समकक्ष न्गुयेन शुयान फुक की मौजूदगी में दोनों पक्षों के अधिकारियों ने समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1. उपाध्याय फिर भारत में नेपाल के राजदूत नामित किए गए 

नेपाल ने दीप कुमार उपाध्याय को भारत में अपना दूत नियुक्त किया। करीब चार महीने पहले उन्हें सरकार से असहयोग करने और सरकार विरोधी गतिविधियों में शामिल होने के आरोप में बुला लिया गया था। 

नये प्रधानमंत्री प्रचंड की अध्यक्षता में मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में उपाध्याय को भारत के लिए राजदूत और मुख्य सचिव लीला मणि पौडेल को चीन के लिए राजदूत नामित किया गया। 

2. अमेरिका के साथ विमान क्षेत्र में कौशल विकास कार्यक्रम का समझौता

राष्ट्रीय कौशल विकास निगम (एनएसडीसी) और भारत अमेरिका उड्डयन-क्षेत्र सहयोग कार्यक्रम (एसीपी) के बीच भारत के विमानन क्षेत्र के लिए कौशल विकास में सहयोग का एक करार किया गया है।

इसके तहत दोनों संगठन एक उत्कृष्टता केंद्र की स्थापना करेंगे जो उड्डयन क्षेत्र से संबंधित कौशल विकास कार्यक्रमों पर केंद्रित होगा।

3. शॉ को फ्रांस का ‘नाइट आफ लीजन आफ ऑनर’ सम्मान

बायोकॉन की चेयरपर्सन एवं प्रबंध निदेशक किरण मजूमदार शॉ को फ्रांस ने नाइन आफ नेशनल आर्डर आफ दर फ्रेंच लीजन ऑफ ऑनर का खिताब दिया है। यह सम्मान वैश्विक स्तर पर जैव विज्ञान तथा शोध क्षेत्र में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए दिया गया है।

4. रेल मंत्रालय द्वारा ई-टिकट पर यात्रा करने वाले यात्रियों के लिए बीमा योजना आरंभ

रेल मंत्री सुरेश प्रभु ने ई-टिकट से यात्रा करने वाले यात्रियों के लिए बीमा योजना आरंभ की. यह बीमा योजना 10 लाख रुपये तक होगी.

यह बीमा रेल दुर्घटना अथवा अन्य दुर्घटना के समय, आतंकवादी हमला, डकैती, दंगा, गोलीबारी अथवा आगजनी आदि होने पर प्रदान की जाएगी.

योजना की विशेषताएं

• यह सुविधा भारतीय रेलवे के उन यात्रियों के लिए आरक्षित है, जो इसकी आधिकारिक वेबसाइट से ई-टिकट की बुकिंग करते हैं. इसमें उपनगरीय रेलगाडि़यां शामिल नहीं हैं.

• यह सुविधा केवल कन्फर्म एवं आरएसी टिकटों के लिए ही उपलब्ध है.

• इसमें प्रीमियम 1 रुपये से कम/अर्थात 92 पैसे है.

• इसमें 5 साल से कम उम्र के बच्चों को छोड़ सभी यात्रियों को कवर किया गया है. इसमें विदेशी नागरिकों को कवर नहीं किया गया है.

• कवरेज: मृत्यु या स्थायी पूर्ण विकलांगता - 10 लाख रुपये

स्थायी आंशिक विकलांगता - 7.5 लाख रुपये (तक)

अस्पताल में भर्ती संबंधी व्यय - 2 लाख रुपये (तक)

5. जैकी चैन को मिलेगा लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट ऑस्कर 

मोशन पिक्चर आर्ट्स एंड साइंसेज अकादमी ने घोषणा की कि मार्शल आर्ट विशेषज्ञ और अभिनेता जैकी चैन को एक लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट ऑस्कर से सम्मानित किया जाएगा।

6. रूडी ने तेलंगाना जाग्रुथी कौशल विकास कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन किया

कौशल विकास और उद्यमिता राज्य मंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) राजीव प्रताप रूडी ने हैदराबाद में तेलंगाना जाग्रुथी कौशल विकास कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन किया।

1. Nepal reappoints Deep Kumar Upadhyay as envoy to India

The Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda-led government in Nepal has decided to reappoint Deep Kumar Upadhyay as Nepal’s new ambassador to India.

Upadhyay, who had been serving as Nepal’s ambassador to India since April 2015, was suddenly recalled by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government in May.

2. NSDC, US-India ACP join hands for aviation skill development

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and US-India Aviation Cooperation Programme (ACP) have entered into a cooperation agreement for skill development in India's aviation sector. 

Under this both the organisations will set up a Centre of Excellence focused on skill development programmes in aviation.

3. Kiran M Shaw appointed 'Knight of Legion of Honour' by France

Biocon chairperson and managing director Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been appointed 'Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur' (Knight of the National Order of the French Legion of Honour) for her outstanding contribution and dedication to Biosciences and Research field globally.

4. Railway launches insurance scheme for passengers travelling on e-ticket

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched an insurance scheme for passengers travelling on e- ticket. The insurance cover will be up to 10 lakh rupees.

The insurance coverage will be available in case of train accidents and other untoward incidents, including terrorist attack, dacoity, rioting, shooting or arson.

Features of the Scheme

• A person booking a train ticket through the IRCTC website will be eligible for the travel insurance and it is optional.

• To avail the facility, train passengers will have to pay 92 paisa premium.

• The insurance cover will not be applicable for children up to 5 years of age and foreign citizens.

• The facility will be available only for confirmed and RAC ticket passengers.

• There will be no refund of the premium in case of ticket cancellation.

• The scheme offers travellers or nominees a compensation of 10 lakh Rupees in the event of death or total disabilty, 7.5 lakh Rupees for partial disability, up to 2 lakh Rupees for hospitalisation expenses and 10000 rupees for transportation of mortal remains from the place of a train accident.

• The compensation claim has to be made within four months of the incident and the insurance company is required to process the claim within 15 days of receipt of the require documents.

Shriram General Insurance Company, ICICI Lombard and Royal Sundaram General Insurance have been roped in by Indian railways for providing the insurance cover.

5. Jackie Chan to get lifetime achievement Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the Martial arts expert and actor Jackie Chan will be awarded with a lifetime achievement Oscar.

6. Rudy inaugurated Telangana skill development programme

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (independent charge) Rajiv Pratap Rudy inaugurated Telangana Jagruthi Skill Development programme in Hyderabad.

1. India rises in rank to 35 on World Bank Logistics Index 2016

Rising 19 places over its previous ranking, India has been ranked 35 among 160 countries in World Bank's recently-released Logistics Performance Index (LPI) for 2016, the government said. 

The Logistics Performance Index Report is published by World Bank every two years. The latest report is titled "Connecting to Complete 2016". 

LPI is an interactive benchmarking tool created to help countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in their performance on trade logistics and what they can do to improve their performance. 

2. Sudarsan's sand art 'world peace' wins award in Russia

Renowned artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has won people's choice award for his sand sculpture made during an international championship in Russia.

The art -- 'Mahatma Gandhi sculpture for non-violence and peace' -- was created in the contest in Moscow in April this year. After the competition, an exhibition is being held there since then.

Pattnaik's sculpture has got 60,000 votes out of the total 80,000 votes from the visitors to the exhibition, according to a letter by the event's organiser Pavel Minilkov.

The week-long competition had started on April 21 at Kolomenskoye, Moscow, where 20 top sculptors from across the world had displayed their craft, he said.

Pattnaik has participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships across the world and won many awards for the country.

3. Brazil: Michel Temer sworn in as new president

Michel Temer, Brazil's former vice president, has been sworn in as the country's new president, a few hours after the country's Senate voted to remove Dilma Rousseff from office.

1. विश्व बैंक एलपी इंडेक्स में भारत 35 वें स्थान पर

विश्व बैंक के लाजिस्टिक्स परफारमेंस इंडेक्स (एलपीआई) 2016 में भारत को 35वें स्थान पर रखा गया है। यह पिछली रैंकिंग की तुलना में 19 पायदान उपर है।

वित्त मंत्रालय ने विश्व बैंक की रपट के हवाले से यह जानकारी दी है। इसके अनुसार लाजिस्टिक्स में भारत के प्रदर्शन का सुधार विनिर्माण व व्यापार में इसकी प्रतिस्पर्धी क्षमता में सतत सुधार का प्रतीक है।

इसके अनुसार 160 देशों में भारत को 35वें स्थान पर रखा गया है। इससे पहले भारत को इसमें 54वें स्थान पर रखा गया था।

2. सुदर्शन की बालू कलाकृति ‘वर्ल्ड पीस’ को रूस में पुरस्कार मिला

मशूहर कलाकार सुदर्शन पटनायक को उनकी बालू की कलाकृति के लिए रूस में आयोजित पीपुल्स च्वाइस पुरस्कार मिला है।

इस वर्ष अप्रैल में मॉस्को में ‘अहिंसा और शांति के लिए महात्मा गांधी शिल्पकला’ प्रतियोगिता का सृजन किया गया था। प्रतियोगिता के बाद वहां तब से प्रदर्शनी लगी हुई है।

कार्यक्रम के आयोजक पावेल मिनिलकोव की तरफ से लिखे गए पत्र के मुताबिक पटनायक की कलाकृति को प्रदर्शनी में आने वाले दर्शकों के 80 हजार में से 60 हजार वोट मिले।

3. मिशेल टेमर ने ब्राजील के राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ ली

ब्राजील के पूर्व उपाध्यक्ष, मिशेल टेमर ने देश के नए राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली। इससे पहले डिल्मा रोसेफ के खिलाफ सीनेट में चली महाभियोग की सुनवाई के बाद उन्हें राष्ट्रपति पद से हटा दिया था। रॉसेफ को पद से हटाने के पक्ष में दो-तिहाई वोट पड़े। सीनेट में 61 सीनेटरों ने महाभियोग के पक्ष में और 20सीनेटरों ने महाभियोग के खिलाफ वोट डाले।

Reliance Annual General Meeting : Key Point Of The Event

In the company’s 42nd Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, said that Jio aims to take India from data shortage to data abundance country.

Reliance Jio, the telecom unit of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, formally announced the start of services across India on Thursday.

HERE IS THE QUICK LOOK AT THE MAJOR POINTS OF THE EVENT

1. Reliance Jio services will be formally launched on 5 September while the commercial launch take till 31 December.

 
2. The data plans will be charged at the standard rate of Rs 50 per GB for 4G data, and the rate would keep falling with increased usage.

3. Data plans start from as low as Rs 149 a month and go all the way up to Rs 4999 per month for a heavy user. For occasionally users, the data plan will start at Rs 19. 

4. Jio voice calls, across India, will not be charged under any plan.

5. 4G LTE smartphones will be sold starting from Rs.2,999 and Jio-Fi for Rs.1,999

6. Till December 31, no charges will be levied on voice, data services or the Jio ecosystem.

7. At present, Jio's network covers 18,000 cities and two lakh villages. A set of apps that Jio offers will be free for active subscribers till December 2017, Ambani said. 

NOTE : Within 45 minutes of Mukesh Ambani Reliance AGM, Bharti lost Rs 12,000 crore in market capitalisation, while Idea Cellular eroded Rs 2,800 crore in market value.
