1. भारतीय-अमेरिकी को मिला ‘इंटरफेश लीडरशिप’ पुरस्कार

भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी परोपकारी व्यक्ति फ्रैंक इस्लाम को ‘इंटरफेथ लीडरशिप पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया है। उन्हें यह पुरस्कार कला और उच्च शिक्षा में योगदान करने के लिए और सभी धर्मों के बीच संवाद को बढ़ावा देने के लिए दिया गया है।

2. पंकज पटेल 2017 के लिए फिक्की के अध्यक्ष चुने गए

जाइडस कैडिला के चेयरमैन एवं प्रबंध निदेशक पंकज पटेल को उद्योग मंडल फिक्की का 2017 के लिए अध्यक्ष चुना गया है। वह अंबुजा नेवतिया समूह के चेयरमैन हषर्वर्धन नेवतिया का स्थान लेंगे, जिनका कार्यकाल अगले महीने पूरा हो रहा है।

फिक्की ने बयान में कहा कि पटेल उद्योग मंडल की 16-17 दिसंबर को होने वाली उद्योग मंडल की सालाना आम बैठक में नेवतिया से कार्यभार संभालेंगे। पटेल कई शिक्षा संस्थानों से सक्रिय रूप से जुड़े हुए हैं।

वह कई शैक्षणिक संस्थानों मसलन भारतीय विज्ञान एवं शिक्षा अनुसंधान संस्थान :आईआईएसईआर कोलकाता:, भारतीय प्रबंधन संस्थान, अहमदाबाद, अहमदाबाद विश्वविद्यालय तथा नर्सी मोंजी इंस्टिट्यूट आफ मैनेजमेंट स्टडीज की सलाहकार समितियों तथा अकादमिक परिषदों में शामिल हैं।

3. मध्यप्रदेश के पूर्व राज्यपाल राम नरेश यादव का निधन

मध्यप्रदेश के पूर्व राज्यपाल राम नरेश यादव का निधन हो गया। वह 90 वर्ष के थे।

यादव 26 अगस्त 2011 से सात सितंबर 2016 तक मध्यप्रदेश के राज्यपाल रहे।

उन्होंने उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में भी 1977 से 1979 तक अपनी सेवा दी थी।

4. लाइफटाइम एचीवमेंट पुरस्कार के लिए चेक फिल्म निर्देशक का चयन

विश्व के प्रख्यात चेक फिल्म निर्देशक जिरी मेंजेल को इस साल केरल अंतरराष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव में लाइफटाइम एचीवमेंट पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जाएगा।

मेंजेल एक जाने माने निर्देशक, अभिनेता और पटकथा लेखक हैं । उनकी फिल्मों में अक्सर व्यंग्य के साथ विश्व का एक मानवतावादी नजरिया और प्रेरणादायी छायांकन देखने को मिलता है। अपनी पहली फीचर फिल्म ‘क्लोजली वाचड ट्रेन्स’ से उन्हें 1967 में अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर ख्याति मिली। इस फिल्म को सर्वश्रेष्ठ विदेशी भाषा फिल्म की श्रेणी में अकादमी पुरस्कार दिया गया था।

मेंजेल की विवादित फिल्म ‘लार्कस ऑन ए स्ट्रिंग’ 1969 में बनी थी लेकिन शुरूआत में इस पर चेकोस्लोवाकिया सरकार ने प्रतिबंध लगा दिया था।

वामपंथी शासन समाप्त होने के बाद आखिरकार 1990 में यह फिल्म प्रदर्शित हुई।

5. भारत ने किया अग्नि-1 बैलिस्टिक मिसाइल का प्रायोगिक परीक्षण

भारत ने परमाणु आयुध ले जाने में सक्षम स्वदेश निर्मित बैलिस्टिक मिसाइल ‘अग्नि-1’ का सफलतापूर्वक प्रायोगिक परीक्षण किया। यह मिसाइल 700 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित लक्ष्य को भेद सकती है। इस परीक्षण को ओडिशा के तट पर स्थित परीक्षण रेंज से अंजाम दिया गया।

रक्षा अधिकारियों ने कहा कि सतह से सतह पर मार सकने में सक्षम इस मिसाइल को अब्दुल कलाम आइलैंड :व्हीलर आइलैंड: की लॉन्च पैड संख्या 4 से सुबह 10 बजकर 10 मिनट पर प्रक्षेपित किया गया।

1. पर्रिकर ने नए युद्धपोत ‘आईएनएस चेन्नई’ का जलावतरण किया

रक्षा मंत्री मनोहर पर्रिकर ने निर्देशित मिसाइल विध्वंसक पोत ‘आईएनएस चेन्नई’ का जलावतरण किया। यह कोलकाता श्रेणी का ऐसा तीसरा निर्देशित मिसाइल विध्वंसक है, जिसका डिजाइन स्वदेशी है।

मुंबई में मझगांव डॉक शिपबिल्डर्स लिमिटेड में इस पोत के निर्माण के साथ ही परियोजना 15ए पूरी हो गई है। यह परियोजना कोलकाता श्रेणी के निर्देशित मिसाइल विध्वंसक बनाने के लिए थी।

नौसेना प्रमुख एडमिरल सुनील लांबा भी इस अवसर पर मौजूद थे।

कुल 164 मीटर लंबा ‘आईएनएस चेन्नई’ भारतीय नौसेना के बेड़े में शामिल होने वाले सबसे बड़े विध्वंसकों में से एक है।

इस पोत में सतह से सतह तक मार करने में सक्षम सुपरसोनिक ब्रह्मोस मिसाइलें और सतह से हवा में लंबी दूरी तक वार कर सकने वाली बराक-8 मिसाइलें लगी हैं।

पोत में लगी प्रणालियों के अतिरिक्त परीक्षणों के बाद इसे पश्चिमी बेड़े में शामिल किया जाएगा। यह इस श्रेणी का अंतिम विध्वंसक पोत है।

इस श्रेणी के पहले पोत का नाम ‘आईएनएस कोलकाता’ था और इसका जलावतरण 16 अगस्त 2014 को किया गया था। इसके बाद ‘आईएनएस कोच्चि’ का जलावतरण 30 सितंबर 2015 में किया गया।

तीसरे विध्वसंक को पश्चिमी नौसैन्य कमान के फ्लैग ऑफिसर कमांडिंग इन चीफ के संचालनात्मक और प्रशासनिक नियंत्रण में रखा जाएगा।

2. यूनान के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति स्टीफनोपोलोस का निधन

यूनान के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति कान्टैंटआइन स्टीफनोपोलोस का निधन हो गया है।

कोस्टिस के नाम से मशहूर स्टीफनोपोलोस 1995 से 2005 तक देश के राष्ट्रपति रहे। 

उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति के रूप में दो बार अपनी सेवाएं दी। हालांकि यह मुख्य रूप से एक औपचारिक पद हैं लेकिन स्टीफनोपोलोस विनम्रता एवं आडंबर रहित जीवन जीने के कारण बहुत लोकप्रिय थे।

3. अमितव घोष को साहित्य उत्सव में लाइफ टाइम अचीवमेंट पुरस्कार

अंग्रेजी के मशहूर लेखक अमितव घोष को मुंबई साहित्य उत्सव के ‘टाटा लिटरेचर लाइव’ में ‘लाइफ टाइम अचीवमेंट’ पुरस्कार से आज सम्मानित किया गया।

‘सी ऑफ पॉपीज’ के लेखक घोष ने कहा कि 30 साल पहले जब आप लेखक बनना चाहते थे तो इसकी हंसी उड़ाई जाती थी। कारण कि हम जैसे लोग लेखक नहीं बनना चाहते थे। हम नौकरशाह या बैंक प्रबंधक बनना चाहते थे। लेकिन बाद के बरसों में चीजें बदल गईं।

इस बीच, अरविंद अडीगा का ‘सेलेक्शन डे’ को फिक्शन श्रेणी में सम्मानित किया गया जबकि सिद्धार्थ मुखर्जी के ‘द जीन’ को गैर फिक्शन श्रेणी में पुरस्कार मिला।

4. थाईलैंड की राजकुमारी को पहला ‘वर्ल्ड संस्कृत अवार्ड’

थाईलैंड की राजकुमारी महा चकरी श्रीधरन को पहला 'वर्ल्ड संस्कृत अवार्ड' प्रदान किया गया। यह पुरस्कार उन्हें संस्कृत भाषा को बढ़ावा देने में उनके योगदान के लिए दिया गया।

राजकुमारी को यह पुरस्कार एक समारोह में उपराष्ट्रपति हामिद अंसारी प्रदान किया। समारोह में अन्य लोगों के साथ केंद्रीय मंत्री एम जे अकबर भी मौजूद थे।

भारतीय सांस्कृतिक संबंध परिषद :आईसीसीआर: द्वारा स्थाापित यह पुरस्कार संस्कृत भाषा और साहित्य में अध्ययन या, शिक्षण या शोध में उत्कृष्ट योगदान देने वाले प्रख्यात संस्कृत विद्धानों को दिया जाता है।

5. महिला रैफरी को एएफसी विशेष पुरस्कार से नवाजा गया

भारत की महिला सहायक रैफरी उवेना फर्नांडीज को कुआलालम्पुर में आयोजित समारोह में एएफसी रैफरी विशेष पुरस्कार नवाजा गया जो भारतीय फुटबाल के लिये एक असाधारण चीज है।

उवेना को यह पुरस्कार एएफसी रैफरी समिति के उपाध्यक्ष हनी बालन के हाथों मिला। उन्हें यह पुरस्कार जोर्डन में अंडर-17 महिला विश्व कप के फाइनल में शानदार प्रदर्शन के लिये दिया गया।

वह किसी भी फीफा विश्व कप में अधिकारी बनने वाली पहली भारतीय सहायक रैफरी हैं।

6. भारत ने पृथ्वी-द्वितीय मिसाइलों का दोहरा सफल प्रक्षेपण किया

भारत ने परमाणु आयुध ले जाने में सक्षम स्वदेशी पृथ्वी-द्वितीय दो मिसाइलों का एक के बाद एक त्वरित गति से दो बार सफल प्रक्षेपण किया।

सेना ने यह परीक्षण ओडिशा के चांदीपुर स्थित परीक्षण रेंज से किया।

रक्षा सूत्रों ने बताया कि एकीकृत प्रक्षेपण रेंज :आईटीआर: के तृतीय परिसर के एक मोबाइल लॉन्चर से सुबह करीब नौ बजकर 35 मिनट पर सतह से सतह पर मार करने वाली दो मिसाइलों का एक के बाद एक त्वरित गति से सफल परीक्षण किया गया । इन मिसाइलों की मारक क्षमता 350 किलोमीटर है और वे 500 किलोग्राम से 1000 किलोग्राम तक वजनी आयुध ले जाने में सक्षम है।

इससे पहले इसी परिसर से 12 अक्तूबर 2009 को इसी प्रकार का दोहरा परीक्षण किया गया था। उस समय भी दोनों परीक्षण सफल रहे थे।

उन्होंने कहा कि इस मिसाइल में दो तरल प्रणोदक इंजन लगे हैं।

एक रक्षा वैज्ञानिक ने बताया कि इन मिसाइलों को उत्पादन भंडार से चुनिंदा आधार पर चुना गया था। अनुसंधान एवं विकास संगठन :डीआरडीओ: के वैज्ञानिकों की निगरानी में विशेष रूप से गठित सामरिक बल कमान :एएफसी: ने प्रक्षेपण की संपूर्ण गतिविधियां कीं।

सूत्रों ने बताया कि मिसाइल के मार्ग पर ओडिशा के तट पर स्थित टेलीमेट्री स्टेशनों, इलेक्ट्रो-ऑप्टिकल ट्रैकिंग प्रणालियों और डीआरडीओ रडारों से नजर रखी गई।

रक्षा सू़त्रों ने बताया कि भारतीय सैन्य बलों में वर्ष 2003 में शामिल की गई नौ मीटर लंबी पृथ्वी 2 ऐसी पहली मिसाइल है जिसे डीआरडीओ ने एकीकृत निर्देशित मिसाइल विकास कार्यक्रम के तहत विकसित किया है।

1. Indian-American felicitated with interfaith leadership award

Azamgarh-born Indian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist Frank Islam has been felicitated with the Interfaith Leadership Award for his contributions towards the arts and higher education and support of interfaith dialogue.

2. Pankaj Patel elected Ficci President for 2017

Zydus Cadila CMD Pankaj Patel has been elected president of industry body Ficci(Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry)for 2017 and will take over once the incumbent Ambuja Neotia Group ChairmanHarshavardhan Neotia completes his term next month.

"Patel will take over from Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of Ambuja Neotia Group, during the Ficci Annual General Meeting to be held on 16 and 17 December," Ficci said.

Pankaj Patel is actively involved in various educational institutions and is on the advisory committees and academic councils of several educational institutions such as Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, IISER, Kolkata, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, The Ahmedabad University and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.

Patel is the Executive Chairman, Vice President and Trustee of the Gujarat Cancer Society and Chairman of the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, a regional Cancer Centre and one of the largest of its kind in India.

3. Ex-Governor of Madhya Pradesh Ram Naresh Yadav dies

Former Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav passed away. He was 90.

Yadav served as the Madhya Pradesh Governor from August 26, 2011 to September 7, 2016. 

The veteran Congress leader was also Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister from 1977-79.

4. Czech film director selected for Lifetime Achievement award

World renowned Czech film director Jiri Menzel will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award at this year's International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

Menzel, a member of the Czech New Wave, is also a well-known theatre director, actor and screenwriter.

His films often combine a humanistic view of the world with sarcasm and provocative cinematography. He received International acclaim in 1967 with his very first feature film "Closely Watched Trains", when it won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Menzel’s controversial film "Larks on a String" was filmed in 1969, but was initially banned by the Czechoslovakian government was finally released in 1990 after the fall of the Communist regime.

5. India successfully test-fires Agni-I ballistic missile

India successfully test-fired its indigenously built nuclear-capable intermediate range 'Agni-I' ballistic missile, capable of hitting a target 700 kms away, from a test range off Odisha coast as part of a user trial by the Army.

The surface-to-surface, single-stage missile, powered by solid propellants, was test-fired from a mobile launcher at 9.15 AM from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island), a defence official said.

1. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar commissions new warship INS Chennai

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar commissioned INS Chennai, the third indigenously designed guided missile destroyer in the Kolkata class.

Built at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in Mumbai, the ships construction also marks the end of the Project 15A to build Kolkata-class guided missile destroyers.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba, was also present on the occasion.

With an overall length of 164 metres and displacement of over 7,500 tons, INS Chennai is one of the largest destroyers in the Indian Navy’s fleet.

The ship is armed with supersonic surface-to-surface BrahMos missiles and Barak-8 long range surface-to-air missiles.

The ship is going to be assigned to the western fleet after completion of some additional trials of systems deployed on it. It is the final destroyer ship in this class.

The first ship of the class, named INS Kolkata, was commissioned on August 16, 2014, followed by INS Kochi which was commissioned on September 30, 2015.

The third destroyer will be placed under the operational and administrative control of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command.

2. Former Greek president Stephanopoulos dies at 90

Greece's official Athens News Agency says Constantine Stephanopoulos, a former president of Greece, has died. He was 90.

Known widely by his first name diminutive Costis, Stephanopoulos was president from 1995 to 2005, serving the two full terms allowed by the Constitution.

3. Amitav Ghosh gets life-time achievement award at Lit Fest

Eminent writer Amitav Ghosh was bestowed with the life-time achievement award at Tata Literature Live, the Mumbai LitFest. 

Meanwhile, Arvind Adiga's 'Selection Day' won the book of year in fiction, whereas 'The Gene' penned by Siddhartha Mukherjee won an award in the non-fiction category. 

'Swimmer Among The Stars: Stories' by Kanshik Tharoor and Manu Pillai's 'The Ivory Throne: Chronicles of the House of Travancore', were best debut books in fiction and non-fiction categories respectively. 

'Grassroots Innovation: Minds on the Margins and not Marginalised', by Anil Gupta was the business book of the year. 

The LitFest introduced the big little award, a first-of- its-kind initiative to recognise the authors and illustrators of children books. 

Madhuri Purandare was the best author, while Atanu Roy won the illustrator award in this category.

4. Thai Princess conferred first World Sanskrit Award

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand has been conferred the first World Sanskrit Award for her contribution towards promotion of the language.

The award was presented by Vice President Hamid Ansari at a function attended by Union Minister M J Akbar, among others.

The award, instituted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), is presented to eminent Sanskrit scholars to recognise their outstanding contribution to the study/teaching /research in Sanskrit language and literature.

5. Woman referee receives AFC special award

In a rare development for Indian football, woman assistant referee Uvena Fernandes was awarded the AFC Referees Special Award at a function in Kuala Lumpur.

Uvena received the award from Hani Balan, Deputy Chairman, AFC Referees Committee for her outstanding supervision of the final of U-17 Womens World Cup in Jordan. 

She is the first Indian assistant referee to ever officiate in any FIFA World Cup.

6. India successfully test-fires twin trial of Prithvi-II missile

India successfully test-fired it’s indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile twice in quick succession as part of a user trial by the army from a test range at Chandipur in Odisha.

In salvo mode, the two surface-to-surface missiles which have a strike range of 350 km and are capable of carrying 500 kg to 1,000 kg of warheads were successfully test-fired in quick succession from mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at around 9.35 am, defence sources said.

A similar twin trial had been conducted on October 12, 2009 from the same base where both tests were successful.

The missile is thrusted by liquid propulsion twin engines. It uses advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvring trajectory to hit its target, they said.

The missiles were randomly chosen from the production stock and the entire launch activities were carried out by the specially formed strategic force command (SFC) and monitored by the scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of training exercise, a defence scientist said.

The missile trajectory was tracked by the DRDO radars, electro-optical tracking systems and telemetry stations located along the coast of Odisha, sources said. The downrange teams on board the ship deployed near the designated impact point in the Bay of Bengal monitored the terminal events and splashdown.

Inducted into Indian armed forces in 2003, the nine-metre-tall, single-stage liquid-fuelled Prithvi-II is the first missile to be developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, defence sources said.

1. प्रियंका ने पीपुल्स च्वाइस अवार्ड के लिए दूसरी बार नामांकन हासिल किया

पिछले साल ‘क्वांटिको’ के लिए पसंदीदा अभिनेत्री का पुरस्कार जीतने वाली प्रियंका चोपड़ा ने लगातार दूसरी बार पीपुल्स च्वाइस अवार्ड 2017 में नामांकन हासिल किया है।

पिछले साल ‘बर्फी’ फिल्म की अभिनेत्री ने अपनी थ्रिलर सीरीज ‘क्वांटिको’ के प्रथम वर्ष में ‘एक नयी टीवी सीरीज में पसंदीदा अभिनेत्री’ का पुरस्कार जीता था और इस तरह से वह पीपुल्स च्वाइस अवार्ड जीतने वाली पहली दक्षिण एशियाई अभिनेत्री बन गई थीं।

अब इस 34 वर्षीय अभिनेत्री का नामांकन दुनियाभर में उनके प्रशंसकों द्वारा उनकी अमेरिकी सीरीज के लिए किया गया है। यह नामांकन ‘पसंदीदा ड्रैमेटिक टीवी अभिनेत्री’ के लिए किया गया है।

2. ट्रंप ने फ्लिन को एनएसए चुना, पोमपेओ बनेंगे सीआईए प्रमुख

अमेरिका के नवनिर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने अपने कैबिनेट के चुने गए कुछ प्रमुख लोगों के नामों का एलान किया जिसमें उन्होंने अपने विश्वस्त सैन्य सलाहकार लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल :सेवानिवृत्त: माइकल फ्लिन को राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार :एनसए: तथा कांग्रेस सदस्य माइक पोमपेओ को सीआईए के प्रमुख के तौर पर चुना है।

ट्रंप ने एलान किया कि उनका इरादा सीनेटर जेफ सेसंस को एटार्नी जनरल बनाने का है।

उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘अमेरिकी सीनेटर जेफ सेसंस को एटॉर्नी जनरल के तौर पर नामित करना सम्मान की बात है।’’ सेसंस का कानून के क्षेत्र में शानदार करियर रहा है। अमेरिकी सीनेट में आने से पहले वह अलबामा के साउदर्न डिस्टिक के लिए अमेरिकी एटॉर्नी और अलबामा के एटॉर्नी जनरल रह चुके हैं।

एनएसए चुने गए फ्लिन ने अफगानिस्तान और इराक में आतंकी नेटवर्क को ध्वस्त करने में अहम भूमिका निभाई थी।

फ्लिन एनएसए के तौर पर सुजेन राइस की जगह लेंगे।

अगस्त माह में फ्लिन की एक किताब आई थी जिसमें उन्होंने पाकिस्तान को दी जाने वाली मदद बंद करने की वकालत की थी और कहा था मदद जारी रखने का मलतब जिहादियों को फायदा पहुंचाना होगा।

पेंटागन की शीर्ष खुफिया एजेंसी डिफेंस इंटेलिजेंस एजेंसी के निदेशक पद से उन्हें वर्ष 2014 में हटा दिया गया था। इसके तुरंत बाद उन्होंने सार्वजनिक तौर पर राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा के खिलाफ आवाज बुलंद की थी।

3. अमेरिका की कांग्रेस के लिए लगातार तीसरी बार चुने गए अमी बेरा

मौजूदा कांग्रेस में एकमात्र भारतीय-अमेरिकी अमी बेरा रिपब्लिकन पार्टी के अपने प्रतिद्वंद्वी को शिकस्त देकर लगातार तीसरी बार अमेरिका की प्रतिनिधि सभा में चुने गए।

बेरा के अलावा तीन अन्य भारतीय अमेरिकी इस बार प्रतिनिधि सभा में चुने गए हैं। इलिनोइस से राजा कृष्णमूर्ति, वाशिंगटन स्टेट से प्रमिला जयपाल और कैलिफोर्निया से रो खन्ना पहली बार प्रतिनिधि सभा में चुने गए हैं।

उन्होंने रिपब्लिकन पार्टी के उम्मीदवार एवं सैक्रामेंटो काउंटी के शेरिफ स्कॉट जोन्स को शिकस्त दी।

यह पहली बार होगा जब प्रतिनिधि सभा में चार भारतीय-अमेरिकी सदस्य होंगे।

सैक्रामेंटो काउंटी रजिस्ट्रार ऑफ वोट्स की ओर से मतगणना की ताजा जानकारी की घोषणा के बाद से बेरा के पुन: निर्वाचन का अनुमान लगाया जा रहा था।

4. दुनिया के प्रसिद्ध हृदय चिकित्सक का अमेरिका में निधन

कृत्रिम हृदय का प्रत्यारोपण करने वाले पहले एवं प्रसिद्ध हृदय शल्य चिकित्सक डेंटन कूली का अमेरिका में निधन हो गया। वह 96 साल के थे।

टेक्सास हर्ट इंस्टीट्यूट के संस्थापक कूली ने अनेक ऐसी तकनीकों की शुरआत की, जिनका इस्तेमाल हृदय शल्य चिकित्सा में आज भी किया जाता है।

उन्होंने अपने चिकित्सक दल के साथ मिलकर 118,000 से ज्यादा खुली हृदय सर्जरी की ।

उनके परिवार ने हृदय शल्य चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में अग्रणी योगदान करने, कृत्रिम हृदय विकसित करने और टेक्सास हर्ट इंस्टीट्यूट की स्थापना करने वाले संस्मरण साझा किये।

1. हेली को चुना गया रिपब्लिकन गवर्नर्स एसोसिएशन की उपाध्यक्ष

दक्षिण कैरोलीना की भारतीय-अमेरिकी गवर्नर निकी हेली को शक्तिशाली रिपब्लिकन गवर्नर्स एसोसिएशन की उपाध्यक्ष चुना गया है।

इस पद के लिए हेली का चयन ऐसे समय पर हुआ है, जब उन्हें नव-निर्वाचत राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप द्वारा विदेश मंत्री का पद दिए जाने की बात पर विचार किया जा रहा है।

आठ नवंबर के आम चुनाव के बाद रिपब्किलन गवर्नर अब 33 राज्यों के प्रभारी हैं। ऐसा पिछले 94 साल में पहली बार हुआ है।

2. जलवायु परिवर्तन प्रदर्शन सूचकांक में भारत 20वें नंबर पर

वर्ष 2017 के जलवायु परिवर्तन प्रदर्शन सूचकांक (सीसीपीआई) में भारत 20वें नंबर पर है जो इस बात को रेखांकित करता है कि भारत जैसा देश नवीकरणीय उर्जा और उर्जा दक्षता के क्षेत्रों में ‘‘बड़े प्रयास’’ कर रहा है।

ऐतिहासिक पेरिस समझौते के हाल ही में लागू होने के बाद ताजा सीसीपीआई में नवीकरणीय उर्जा और सकारात्मक विकास में तेजी की पुष्टि होती है।

यह रिपोर्ट जर्मनवाच एंड क्लाइमेट एक्शन नेटवर्क यूरोप ने प्रकाशित की है।

इसमें कहा गया है कि वैश्विक पैमाने पर ये उत्साहवर्धक कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं लेकिन जरूरी उर्जा क्रांति होनी अभी बाकी है।

जलवायु नीति के संबंध में इसमें कहा गया है कि भारत, स्वीडन, लग्जमबर्ग, नार्वे और जर्मनी ने इस मामले में अपनी नीति बरकरार रखी है।

3. भारत-ईरान व्यापार में सुगमता के लिए वाणिज्य मंत्रालय ने पोर्टल शुरू किया

वाणिज्य मंत्रालय ने भारत और ईरान के क्रेता-विक्रेताओं को जरूरी सूचनाएं उपलब्ध और ई-मार्केट प्लेस उपलब्ध कराने के लिए एक पोर्टल शुरू किया है।

इससे दोनों देशों के बीच द्विपक्षीय व्यापार बढ़ाने में मदद मिलेगी।

मंत्रालय ने बयान में कहा कि हिंद-ईरान पोर्टल एसटीसी तथा दाउमन क्यूशम, ईरान की संयुक्त पहल है।

बयान में कहा गया है कि इस व्यापार पोर्टल का उद्देश्य भारत-ईरान व्यापार के बारे में जरूरी सूचनाएं उपलब्ध कराने के अलावा दोनों देशों के क्रेता-विक्रेताओं को ई-मार्केट प्लेस उपलब्ध कराना है।

वाणिज्य विभाग में अतिरिक्त सचिव इंदर जीत सिंह ने ईरान के राजदूत गुलामरेजा अंसारी तथा एसटीसी के सीएमडी खलील रहीम की मौजूदगी में पोर्टल का शुभारंभ किया।

4. वैश्विक स्तर पर 27 पेंशन प्रणाली में भारत 25वें स्थान पर

मेलबोर्न मर्सर नेटवर्किंग पेंशन सूचकांक (एमएमजीपीआई) 2016 के अनुसार भारत वैश्विक स्तर पर 27 पेंशन प्रणाली में 25वें स्थान पर है। वहीं डेनमार्क लगातार पाचवें साल शीर्ष स्थान पर बरकरार है। नीदरलैंड और आस्ट्रेलिया क्रमश: दूसरे और तीसरे स्थान पर है।

एमएमजीपीआई 2016 के अनुसार भारत वैश्विक पेंशन के संदर्भ में काफी सुधार किया है और उसका सूचकांक मूल्य 2016 में सुधरकर 43.4 हो गया जो 2015 में 40.3 था।

बिना कोई मजबूत कदम उठाये बढ़ती आबादी, जन्म दर में गिरावट तथा मजबूत सेवानिवृत्ति प्रणाली के अभाव में कई देशों में अपने वरिष्ठ नागरिकों को पर्याप्त पेंशन उपलब्ध कराने में समस्या देखने को मिलेगी।

मर्सर के इंडिया बिजनेस लीडर :रिटायरमेंट: के अनिल लोगो ने कहा कि भारत सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय पेंशन प्रणाली :एनपीएस: के तहत कर प्रोत्साहन उपलब्ध कराकर नई पहल की है। इससे कारपोरट क्षेत्र के कर्मचारियों के बीच लोकप्रियता बढ़ रही है।

उन्होंने कहा कि फिर 2015 में शुरू अटल पेंशन योजना :एपीवाई: से भी असंगठित क्षेत्र में कर्मचारियों के बीच पेंशन के लिये कवरेज बढ़ेगा।

5. ओलांदे ने मून को दिया फ्रांस का सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान

फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति फ्रांसुआ ओलांदे ने जलवायु परिवर्तन की समस्या से निपटने में योगदान के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र के महासचिव बान की मून को देश के सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान’लीजन ऑफ ऑनर’ से सम्मानित किया है। 

श्री ओलांदे ने श्री मून को यह सम्मान प्रदान करते हुए कहा “यह सब आपके ही योगदान का परिणाम है कि जलवायु परिवर्तन की समस्या से निपटने के लिए पूरा विश्व एक साथ खड़ा हो गया। कई वर्ष पहले ही आपने इस विषय को वरीयता देना शुरु कर दिया था।”

फ्रांस का सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान समझे जाने वाले इस पुरस्कार की शुरुआत नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट ने वर्ष 1802 में की थी। श्री मून दस वर्ष के कार्यकाल के बाद अगले वर्ष एक जनवरी को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव के पदभार से मुक्त हो जाएंगे। उनकी जगह पुर्तगाल के एंटोनियो गुटेरेस लेंगे।

6. फेडरल बैंक का ऑक्सीजन से करार 

निजी क्षेत्र के फेडरल बैंक ने ई-कलेक्शन के माध्यम से नकदी प्रबंधन सेवाओं के लिए मोबाइल वॉलेट सेवा प्रदाता कंपनी ऑक्सीजनसे हाथ मिलाया है। 

इस भागीदारी से ऑक्सीजन के तीन लाख से अधिक रिटेलर अब फेडरल बैंक की शाखाओं में नकदी जमा कर सकते हैं। बैंक की मुख्य परिचालन अधिकारी शालिनी वॉरियर ने इस साझेदारी की घोषणा करते हुये कहा कि उनके बैंक ने डिजिटल बैंकिंग को गति देने के उद्देश्य से मोबाइल बैंकिंग एेप ‘फेडमोबाइल’ जारी किया है जो ग्राहकों को धन हस्तांतरण, मोबाइल रिचार्ज, बिल भुगतान, होटल और बस बुकिंग तथा अन्य सेवा देता है। 

हाल ही में खुदरा नेट बैंकिंग सेवा ‘फेडनेट’ को बेहतर बनाया गया है। इसके साथ ही कई और कदम उठाये गये हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि अब आॅक्सीजन के साथ भागीदारी कर ई-कलेक्शन को बढ़ावा दिया जा रहा है।

1. Priyanka bags People's Choice Awards nomination for 2nd time

After winning favourite actress award for "Quantico" last year, actress Priyanka Chopra has won the second consecutive nomination at People's Choice Awards 2017. 

Last year, the "Barfi" actress won the 'Favourite Actress in a new TV Series' award in debut year of her thriller series, "Quantico". She became the first South Asian actress in history to win a People's Choice Award, a press release issued here has said.

Now, the 34-year-old actress has been nominated for Favourite dramatic TV actresses by her fans across the globe for the second season of her American series. 

She is up against Ellen Pompeo, Kerry Washington, Taraji P Henson and Viola Davis in the category. 

The "Bajirao Mastani" actress became a household name in the US with her hit TV show "Quantico". 

The award ceremony will take place in January 2017.

2. Trump picks Flynn as NSA, Pompeo to head CIA

US President-elect Donald Trump announced key Cabinet picks with the influential post of National Security Adviser going to his trusted military adviser Lt Gen (rtd) Michael Flynn while Congressman Mike Pompeo was selected to head the powerful CIA.

Trump also announced that he intends to nominate Senator Jeff Sessions to serve as Attorney General.

Sessions has a distinguished legal career and has served as both the US Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama and Alabama Attorney General prior to his service in the US Senate.

He has been one of President-elect Trump's trusted advisors on the campaign and will now continue his service as nation's chief law enforcement officer, Trump's transition team said.

Flynn, a retired United States Army Lieutenant General and former director of the Defence Intelligence Agency, assumes the position of National Security Advisor with a decorated career of more than 35 years in service.

Pompeo, representing Kansas' Fourth Congressional District, is a former active duty cavalry officer in the US Army and graduated first in his class from the US Military Academy at West Point.

He currently serves on the House Intelligence Committee, which oversees America's intelligence-gathering efforts.

3. Ami Bera re-elected to US Congress for 3rd consecutive time

Ami Bera, the only Indian- American in the current Congress, has been re-elected to the US House of Representatives for the third consecutive time after defeating his Republican rival. 

Bera, 51, would be joined by three first-time Indian- American lawmakers in the US House of Representatives -- Raja Krishnamoorthi from Illinois, Pramila Jayapal from Washington State and Ro Khanna from California.

He defeated Republican Sacramento County sheriff Scott Jones. 

This is for the first time that the House would have four Indian-American members. 

Bera was projected to be declared elected after Sacramento County Registrar of Votes announced the latest update of its counting of votes. 

According to this, Bera's lead over his Republican rival Scott Jones grew to more than two per cent, with129,064 votes to 123,056 in the Congressional Seventh District of California. 

With Bera's victory, he ties the record of the most consecutive terms served by an Indian-American in Congress, previously held by Congressman Dalip Singh Saund,who served three terms from 1957-1963. 

In both 2012 and 2014, Bera won by 9,191 and 1,455 votes respectively, after several days of counting. 

In the run up to the polls, Bera was endorsed by US President Barack Obama. 

In 2012, Bera led Republican Dan Lungren by 184 votes the morning after Election Day, and his lead eventually grew to 9,191 votes. 

In 2014, Bera was down by more than 3,000 votes on election night, and he came back to win by 1,455 votes. 

Saund was the first Indian-American elected to the US Congress. He represented the 29th Congressional District of California for three terms from January 3, 1957 to January 3, 1963.

4. Heart surgeon credited with world's 1st dies in US

Denton Cooley, a renowned heart surgeon who performed world's first artificial heart transplant in the US, has passed away at the age of 96.

Cooley, who was the founder of Texas Heart Institute, pioneered many techniques still used in cardiovascular surgery

He and his teams also performed more than 118,000 open-heart operations

Former President George H W Bush said in a statement: Barbara and I join the thousands of Houstonians, Americans, and admirers around the world who today are mourning the loss of a true giant, Denton Cooley.

1. Haley elected Vice Chair of Republican Governors Association

Indian-American South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has been elected Vice Chair of the powerful Republican Governors Association.

44-year-old Haley’s elevation to this position came amid reports that she is being considered for the position of secretary of state by President-elect Donald Trump.

After the November 8 general elections, Republican Governors are now in charge of 33 States, something that has not happened in 94 years.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was elected Chair and Haley, the daughter of Indian immigrants, Vice Chair of the Republican Governors Association (RGA) for the year 2017.

2. India ranks 20th in Climate Change Performance Index

India has been ranked 20th in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2017, which underlined that countries like India are making "great efforts" in the fields of renewables and energy efficiency.

With the historic Paris Agreement having recently entered into force, the latest CCPI confirms a boost for renewable energy and positive developments in energy efficiency.

The publication was issued by German watch and Climate Action Network Europe.

While these encouraging trends are happening on a global scale, the necessary energy revolution is still happening too slowly, it said.

"Morocco (rank 8), this year’s host of COP22 continued its upward trend in the CCPI 2017. With massive investments in renewable energy and ambitious mid- and long-term targets, Morocco is a frontrunner in Africa.

"Positive trends are seen as well among emerging economies of the G20 like India (rank 20), Argentina (rank 36) and Brazil (40) which all improved their ranking in the CCPI 2017," it said.

3. Commerce Minister launches portal for facilitating Indo-Iran trade

The Commerce Ministry launched a portal to provide relevant information and an e-marketplace for buyers and sellers of India and Iran.

The move would help in enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries.

"The Hind-Iran portal (hindirantrade.org) is a joint initiative of STC and Douman Queshm, Iran," the Ministry said in a statement.

"The objective of the trade portal is to disseminate information relevant to Indo-Iran Trade, and provide an e-marketplace for the buyers and sellers of the two countries," it said.

It is also aimed at bridging the communication divide which the business communities face.

The portal was launched by Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Inder Jit Singh in the presence of Ambassador of Iran, Gholamreza Ansari and STC CMD Khaleel Rahim.

The two-way trade between the countries declined to USD 9 billion in 2015-16 from USD 13.13 billion in the previous fiscal.

4. India comes in at 25 among 27 pension systems globally

According to Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index (MMGPI) 2016, India has been ranked at a low 25 among 27 pension systems globally while Denmark maintained the top position for the fifth year. Netherlands and Australia have taken second and third slots, respectively. 

According to MMGPI 2016, India showed maximum improvement in global pension and its index value has improved to 43.4 in 2016 from 40.3 in 2015.

Ageing populations, declining birth rates and lack of robust retirement systems will see many countries struggle under the burden of providing adequate pensions to their senior citizens without drastic action, the survey stated. "New initiatives by the Government of India in providing tax incentives under the National Pension System both during accumulation stage and withdrawal at retirement are increasing its popularity among employees in the corporate sector," said Anil Lobo, India Business Leader-Retirement, Mercer. Further, Atal Pension Yojana (APY), which was launched in 2015 has also contributed to increase in coverage for pension among workers in the unorganised sector, Lobo added. As per the report, possible measures to further enhance India’s system include increasing coverage of pension arrangements for the unorganised working class and introducing minimum access age so that it is clear that benefits are preserved for retirement purposes. It suggested other measures such as improving regulatory requirements for the private pension system, continuing to improve the required level of communication to members and increasing level of contributions in statutory pension schemes.

5. Hollande awards France's Legion of Honour to U.N.'s Ban Ki-moon

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon received the Legion of Honour from French President Francois Hollande for his contributions to tackling climate change.

The South Korean diplomat helped push through the 2015 Paris Agreement, a deal aimed at moving away from fossil fuels to cleaner energies that was signed by almost 200 countries after nearly two decades of negotiations.

"It was largely because of your contribution, because many years ago you started putting this topic on all the agendas," Holland said at the ceremony of Ban's efforts.

The Legion of Honour was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte and is considered to be one of France's highest civilian awards.

"By doing this you are rewarding our honorable organization and I feel deeply honored and proud," said Ban, who will step down as head of the 193-member world organization after 10 years on Jan 1. He will be replaced by Antonio Guterres of Portugal.

6. Federal Bank ties up with Oxigen for cash management services

Federal Bank has tied up with Oxigen to expand the bank's e-collection facility to the latter's nearly 2 lakh-plus retail outlets.

With this arrangement, which will initially be valid for one year, all the two-lakh plus retail outlets of Oxigen will be able to remit their cash collection at Federal Bank branches pan-India.

The private sector bank will leverage their e-collection platform to validate the details of the outlets on a real-time basis before accepting the payment. This tie-up would help the outlets replenish their running limits on-the-spot, enabling them to continue to serve customers hassle-free.

The agreement was exchanged between Shalini Warrier, Chief Operating Officer, Federal Bank, and Pramod Saxena, Founder and Chairman of Oxigen, in the Capital on Thursday.

Federal Bank has a branch network of 1,252 branches and 1,524 ATMs spread across the country.
