Happy 69th Republic Day : Feel Proud to be Indian

India celebrates Republic Day on 26th January every year. This year will mark the 69th Republic Day of our country. Republic Day is celebrated to honour the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect i.e. 26 January 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. The Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950.

The main Republic Day celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, at the Rajpath before the President of India. On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage.

Chief Guests

Every year, India invites guests from different countries to mark their presence on this auspicious day. This year, leaders from 10 ASEAN countries will be the chief guests of the Republic Day celebrations.

Republic Day 2018: 85 personalities conferred with Padma Awards this year


This year a total of 85 Padma awards including three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri, have been conferred to various eminent personalities in different fields.

Legendary Tamil film music director Ilayaraja, Ghulam Mustafa Khan and P Parameswaran are awarded with Padma Vibhushan.

Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and billiards player Pankaj Advani were among the ones to be conferred with Padma Shri.

Attractions:

The 69th Republic Day parade will see participants not only from the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, but it will also showcase over 700 students across the guest countries performing at the event.

And for the first time, a newly-formed all-woman biker’s contingent of the Border Security Force (BSF) will make its debut on Rajpath on Republic Day.

The 27-member BSF women 'daredevils' squad, named 'Seema Bhavani', will showcase their stunts and acrobatics on their 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles.
