1. Lok Sabha passes all four GST Bills
The Lok Sabha passed the much-awaited Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, Integrated GST Bill, Compensation GST Bill and Union Territory GST Bill 2017, after negating all the amendments put forward by the Opposition.
The four GST Bills were passed after an eight-hour marathon debate in the Lower House.
The government is targeting the roll-out date of July 1 for the new indirect tax regime.
2. Nomura elevates Prabhat Awasthi as head of India operations
Global financial services major Nomura announced the appointment of Prabhat Awasthi as the new head of its India operations.
Awasthi, who currently heads equities at Nomura’s India, will take over charge in his new role from April 1.
3. President approves law that allows paid maternity leave of 26 weeks
Women employees will now be able to get paid maternity leave of 26 weeks, up from 12 weeks, as per a new law.
President Pranab Mukherjee has given assent to the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 that has made changes in some of the provisions of over 55-year-old law entitling certain benefits to women employees.
4. General Bipin Rawat made honorary General of Nepal Army
Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat was conferred the rank of honorary General of the Nepal Army by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari at a special ceremony at the President's official residence Sheetal Niwas here, media reports said.
5. Dr Arvind Lal elected as President of NATHEALTH
Healthcare providers apex body NATHEALTH said Dr Lal PathLabs Chairman & MD Dr Arvind Lal has been elected as the President of the federation for 2017-18.
He succeeds Max Group President and Max India, Max Life & Max Healthcare Chairman Rahul Khosla, NATHEALTH said in a statement.
6. Kotak Mahindra Bank launches new mobile app
Kotak Mahindra Bank has launched a new mobile app 8-11 to double its customer base.
Kotak added that 8-11, which he claimed was inspired by PM Narendra Modi's November 8, 2016 decision to demonetise the old 500- and 1,000-rupee notes, allows one to open a zero-balance, zero-charge account even at an unearthly 2 a.m.
