1. Yesudas to be brand ambassador of ‘Haritha Keralam’ project

CPI (M)-led LDF government has roped in eminent Carnatic vocalist and playback singer K J Yesudas as the brand ambassador of its ambitious ‘Haritha Keralam’ (Green Kerala) project, a massive initiative envisaged for a garbage-free and clean state. 

2. 8% economic growth not before 2018-19: Fitch

Fitch Ratings projected Indian economy to grow at a slower pace of 7.4 per cent in the current fiscal and touch 8 per cent growth only in 2018-19, as it expects the benefits of reforms and impact of monetary easing to kick in with a lag. The US-based rating agency projected Reserve Bank of India (RBI) lowering interest rates by 0.25 per cent before end of 2016, followed by another rate cut in 2017. 

Fitch Ratings latest bi-monthly Global Economic Outlook (GEO) report said "We forecast GDP growth to accelerate gradually from 7.4 per cent in FY17 (year ending March 2017) to 8.0 per cent in FY19". It projected the growth to be at 7.9 per cent in 2017-18. 

The Indian economy grew 7.6 per cent last year. 

3. Reliance-Dassault JV to execute Rafale deal


The Anil Ambani-led Reliance group said it had tied up with Dassault Aviation to help the French company spend up to $4.51 billion that it must invest in India as part of a recent fighter jet deal it clinched.

Dassault agreed to invest 50 per cent in so-called offsets of the $8.7 billion deal it signed with India on September 23 to supply 36 of its Rafale fighter jets. Reliance said the offset contract is India's biggest ever.

Reliance, which has virtually no experience of defence manufacturing, hopes to turn into a major defence firm over the coming years. The agreement with Dassault is a bet that Reliance can build manufacturing facilities at Nagpur to feed into Dassault's supply chain, or for future government orders of the Rafale jet.

A person familiar with the agreement said part of the Rs 30,000 crore in offsets would be spent directly on Reliance manufactured products, and the rest would be spent through other Indian manufacturers, depending on which company could best carry out the work.

According to senior executives, Reliance had bid for Rs 84,000 crore in government contracts, but was yet to win any. Other Indian companies with an interest in defence and aerospace include Tata Group, Mahindra Group and Larsen & Toubro.

4. India's GDP growth to remain strong: World Bank

Describing South Asia as a global growth hotspot, the World Bank has said India's GDP growth will remain strong at 7.6 percent in 2016 and 7.7 percent in 2017. 

5. Author Arundhati Roy announced her next novel

Author Arundhati Roy announced her next novel, 'The Ministry of Utmost Happiness', set to be published in 2017 by the Penguin Random House. 

6. RBI cuts policy rate by 0.25 per cent 

RBI cuts policy rate by 0.25 per cent to 6.25 per cent. RBI retains GDP growth rate at 7.6 per cent for current fiscal.

Reverse repo rate under the LAF is now 5.75 per cent, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate is 6.75 per cent.

7. Nobel Prize in Physics 2016

David Thouless, Duncan Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2016.

1. Yoshinori Ohsumi wins Nobel Prize in medicine for work on autophagy


The Nobel Prize in medicine has been awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi for his discoveries on how the body’s cells detoxify and repair themselves.

The Japanese cell biologist will receive the prestigious 8m Swedish kronor (£718,000) award for “mechanisms for autophagy”.

Autophagy is essentially the body’s internal recycling program - scrap cells are hunted down and the useful parts are stripped out to generate energy or create new cells. It is a crucial process to prevent cancerous growths, and, by maintaining a healthy metabolism, helps protect against conditions like diabetes.

2. Iraq beat Iran via penalty shootout to win AFC U-16 Championships


Iraq beat Iran 4-3 via penalty shootout to win their maiden Asian Football Confederation U-16 Championships title at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

3. Arab leader will be the chief guest at India's Republic Day next year


Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, will be the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi next year, 2017.

4. UN issues stamp to honour M S Subbulakshmi


The UN released a postage stamp to honour India's most celebrated carnatic music artist M S Subbulakshmi, who had performed at the world body 50 years ago. 

The USD 1.20 value commemorative stamp, issued by the UN Postal Administration in Subbulakshmi’s honour, has the iconic blue emblem of the UN alongside her picture. This year also marks her birth centenary. 

The stamp was released at a special ceremony at the UN headquarters to mark India’s ratification of the historic Paris climate deal. It was attended by several dignitaries who hailed the country’s move to combat global warming. 

The ceremony concluded with a soulful rendition by carnatic music singer Sudha Raghunathan of Subbulakshmi’s music as well as of Gandhi’s beloved Ram Dhun. Raghunathan performed songs in seven languages, including Bengali, and received a standing ovation from the audience. 

The first stamp was presented to Raghunathan to honour her performance at the UN. 

Subbulakshmi, the first ever musician to be awarded India’s highest civilian honour the Bharat Ratna, was invited by the then UN Secretary General Late U Thant to perform at the General Assembly in October 1966, becoming the first Indian to perform there. 

The Indian mission here had also organised a photo exhibition in August at the world body’s headquarters to commemorate Subbulakshmi’s birth centenary which fell on September 16. 

5. 'Murga' wins first prize at Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival


Young filmmaker Katyayan Shivpuri, from Maharashtra, won the first prize at the Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival for his work 'Murga'. 

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, M Venkaiah Naidu awarded Katyayan with a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs.

6. Gangtok awarded 'Cleanest Tourist Destination'

Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, has been named as the 'Cleanest City Destination' by the Union Ministry of Tourism.

7. India has highest number of people living below poverty line: World Bank


According to the World Bank, India accounted for the largest number of people living below international poverty line in 2013, with 30 per cent of its population under the $1.90-a- day poverty measure.

1. जापान के योशिनोरी ओसुमी को चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में मिला नोबेल पुरस्कार

नोबेल पुरस्कारों को देने वाली संस्था ने आज चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में योगदान के लिए जापान के योशिनोरी ओसुमी को नोबेल देने की घोषणा की है. ओसुमी जापानी बायोलॉजिस्ट हैं.

योशिनोरी ओसुमी को ऑटोफेगी के क्षेत्र में रिसर्ज के लिए यह नोबेल दिया गया है. नोबेल प्राइज देने वाली संस्था के आधिकारिक ट्विटर हैंडल से इस संबंध में ट्वीट किया गया है. 

ऑटोफैगी एक शारीरिक प्रक्रिया है जो शरीर में कोशिकाओं के हो रहे क्षरण/ नाश से निपटती है. पुरस्कार मिलने के बाद ओशिनोरी ने कहा कि खबर से मैं काफी चकित रह गया था. जब मुझे सूचना मिली तब मैं लैब में था.

2. इराक ने ईरान को पेनल्टी शूटआउट में हराकर एएफसी अंडर 16 चैम्पियनशिप जीती


इराक ने पेनल्टी शूट आउट में ईरान को 4-3 से हराकर जवाहरलाल नेहरू स्टेडियम में पहली बार एशियाई फुटबाल परिसंघ अंडर 16 चैम्पियनशिप जीत ली।

3. अबूधाबी के शहजादे भारत के गणतंत्र दिवस पर मुख्य अतिथि होंगे


अबूधाबी के शहजादे मोहम्मद बिन जायेद अल नाहयान अगले वर्ष भारत के गणतंत्र दिवस परेड में मुख्य अतिथि होंगे।

4. संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने एम एस सुब्बुलक्ष्मी के सम्मान में डाक टिकट जारी किया


संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने भारत की मशहूर कर्नाटक संगीत कलाकार एम एस सुब्बुलक्ष्मी के सम्मान में एक डाक टिकट जारी किया। उन्होंने 50 वर्ष पहले इस वैश्विक मंच पर प्रस्तुति दी थी।

सुब्बुलक्ष्मी के सम्मान में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के डाक प्रशासन ने 1.20 डॉलर मूल्य का डाक टिकट जारी किया जिसमें उनकी तस्वीर के साथ-साथ संयुक्त राष्ट्र का प्रतिष्ठित नीला चिह्न है। इस वर्ष उनकी सौवीं जयंती भी है।

भारत के ऐतिहासिक पेरिस जलवायु समझौते के अनुमोदन के विशेष अवसर पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र मुख्यालय में यह डाक टिकट जारी किया गया। इस अवसर पर देश के कई अधिकारी समारोह में उपस्थित थे।

गांधी के प्यारे ‘राम धुन’ के साथ सुब्बुलक्ष्मी के संगीतों पर कर्नाटक संगीत गायिका सुधा रघुनाथन की भावपूर्ण प्रस्तुति के साथ इस समारोह का समापन हुआ।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र में पहला डाक टिकट रघुनाथन को उनकी प्रस्तुति के सम्मान में दिया गया।

सुब्बुलक्ष्मी पहली संगीतकार हैं जिन्हें भारत का सर्वोच्च सम्मान ‘भारत रत्न’ से नवाजा गया है।

5. स्वच्छ भारत लघु फिल्मोत्सव में ‘मुर्गा’ को पहला पुरस्कार


महाराष्ट्र के युवा फिल्मकार कात्यायन शिवपुरी ने अपनी फिल्म ‘मुर्गा’ के लिए स्वच्छ भारत लघु फिल्म उत्सव में पहला पुरस्कार जीता है।

सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री एम वेंकैया नायडू ने कात्यायन को एक प्रमाणपत्र और 10 लाख रपये का नगद इनाम प्रदान किया।

6. गंगटोक को ‘‘सबसे स्वच्छ पर्यटक स्थल’’ का पुरस्कार 


केन्द्रीय पर्यटन मंत्रालय ने सिक्किम की राजधानी गंगटोक को ‘‘सबसे स्वच्छ पर्यटक शहर’’ का सम्मान दिया है। 

7. भारत में सबसे अधिक गरीब मौजूद: विश्व बैंक रिपोर्ट


विश्व बैंक द्वारा जारी की गयी एक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया कि वर्ष 2013 तक किये गए सर्वेक्षणों के अनुसार गरीबी रेखा से नीचे रहने वाले सर्वाधिक लोग भारत में मौजूद हैं। वर्ष 2013 में भारत की 30 प्रतिशत जनसंख्या की औसत दैनिक आय 1.90 डॉलर से भी कम थी।

1. U-18 Asia Cup hockey final: India beat Bangladesh 5-4 to claim title 

India defeated hosts Bangladesh by 5-4 in the final match at the under-18 Asia Cup hockey tournament to win the title. 

2. Kotak Mahindra Bank to acquire BSS Microfinance for Rs 139 cr 

Private sector Kotak Mahindra Bank said it will acquire BSS Microfinance for Rs 139.2 crore to reach a wider customer base. 

BSS Microfinance is a non-banking financial company, classified as an NBFC-MFI. 

3. MoneyTap launches credit line app 

Bengaluru-based start-up MoneyTap launched an app-based credit line as a facility for consumers to borrow money up to Rs.5 lakh or even as little as Rs.3,000 at low interest rates for flexible tenure. 

“The “Credit Line” means that bank will issue a limit of upto Rs5 lakh, without any collateral or charging any interest,” MoneyTap said in a statement. 

The fin-tech start-up said that these loans can be repaid in equated monthly instalments (EMIs) over a period of two months to three years. 

The company has partnered with banks such as RBL Bank to facilitate credit line services and claims it to be the first such service in India. The app is available for all salaried employees across metro cities and plans to expand in other cities in the next few months. The company plans to partner with other banks as well. 

4. Somesh Sharma of Rashtradoot Saptahik is new INS chief 
Somesh Sharma of Rashtradoot Saptahik was elected President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for the year 2016-17 its 77th Annual General Meeting. 

5. SBI offers 'Hope Loans' at reduced interest rates 

SBI announced the launch of a special financing scheme 'Hope Loans', under which customers can avail credit facility at lower rates. 

6. Harvard hires Narvekar as endowment manager 

Harvard has brought in a new manager from Columbia University to run its $36-billion endowment, the largest of any university. 

N P Narvekar, 54, was appointed president and CEO of Harvard Management Company, the university stated. He succeeds Stephen Blyth, who resigned in July, citing health reasons, after 18 months on the job.

1. भारत बना अंडर-18 एशिया कप चैंपियन, फ़ाइनल में बांग्लादेश को 5-4 से हराया

भारत ने फाइनल में मेजबान बांग्लादेश को 5-4 से हराकर अंडर-18 एशिया कप पुरुष हाकी टूर्नामेंट का खिताब जीता।

2. बीएसएस माइक्रोफाइनेंस का अधिग्रहण करेगा कोटक महिंद्रा बैंक 

निजी क्षेत्र का कोटक महिंद्रा बैंक बीएसएस माइक्रोफाइनेंस का 139.2 करोड़ रपये में अधिग्रहण करेगा। यह सौदा पूरी तरह नकद भुगतान करके पूरा किया जाएगा।

बीएसएस माइक्रोफाइनेंस एक गैर-बैकिंग वित्तीय कंपनी है।

3. मनीटैप ने एप के जरिए लोन सुविधा शुरू की

बेंगलुरू की स्टार्टअप मनीटैप ने एप आधारित ऋण सुविधा शुरू की है। इस सुविधा के जरिए ग्राहक 3,000 रपये से लेकर पांच लाख रपये तक का कर्ज ले सकेंगे। मनीटैप ने इसके लिए बैंकों से गठजोड़ किया है।

कंपनी के बयान के अनुसार उसके एप के जरिए सस्ती ब्याज दरों पर लचीली अवधि के लिए कर्ज लिया जा सकेगा।

इसके अनुसार ऋण का भुगतान दो महीने से तीन साल की ईएमआई में किया जा सकता है।

मनीटैप ने इस सेवा के लिए आरबीएल बैंक के साथ गठजोड़ किया है। यह एप फिलहाल दिल्ली एनसीआर, मुंबई, बेंगलुरू, हैदराबाद व चेन्नई के लोगों के लिए उपलब्ध है।

4. ‘राष्ट्रदूत साप्ताहिक’ के सोमेश शर्मा बने आईएनएस के नए अध्यक्ष
‘राष्ट्रदूत साप्ताहिक’ के सोमेश शर्मा को वर्ष 2016-17 के लिए इंडियन न्यूजपेपर सोसाइटी (आईएनएस) का नया अध्यक्ष चुना गया।

5. एसबीआई ने ‘होप लोन’ की पेशकश की

भारतीय स्टेट बैंक (एसबीआई) ने विशेष ऋण योजना ‘होप लोन’ की घोषणा की जिसके तहत ग्राहक निम्न दरों पर ऋण सुविधा ले सकते हैं।

6. भारतीय मूल के निवेश विशेषज्ञ को हार्वर्ड का एंडाओमेंट प्रमुख नियुक्त किया गया 

भारतीय मूल के एक निवेश विशेषज्ञ को हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय ने 36 अरब डॉलर के अपने कोष की देखरेख करने वाली प्रबंधन कंपनी का मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (सीईओ) नियुक्त किया है। यह अपने तरह का दुनिया में सबसे बड़ा कोष है। 

हार्वर्ड मैनेजमेंट कंपनी (एचएमसी) ने एक बयान में कहा कि 54 साल के एन पी नारवेकर को एचएमसी का प्रमुख एवं सीईओ नियुक्त किया गया है।
